Max Landis Career

Career

Max Landis appeared in a few of his father's films, including The Stupids, Blues Brothers 2000, and Burke and Hare. He began writing at the age of 16, and sold his first script at the age of 18. His father worked with his father on the Masters of Horror episode "Deer Woman." Fear Itself, a self-produced episode of the series's second iteration, was written by the actor in 2008. He wrote Back to Mysterious Island (based on Jules Verne's book) for Bluewater Comics earlier this year.

Landis wrote shorts that were created by students in the school's film program while attending the University of Miami. He started going on what one contemporary reporter referred to as a "spec-selling streak," with three of his pitches chosen within six months. Good Time Gang, described as "a cross between The Bourne Identity and Jackass," which was not available. Mr.'s screenwriter, Stephen Gore, was hired in 2011 as a screenwriter. Correct, a tense romantic comedy that received mixed praise in 2015.

He sold Chronicle, a script that was once included on the Black List of promising unproduced screenplays, to Davis Entertainment of 20th Century Fox. It was directed by Josh Trank and unveiled in February 2012 to critical acclaim and commercial success. Landis created a draft for a sequel but Fox was dissatisfied with it, and the project was cancelled. Landis' script for a film based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which became 2015's Victor Frankenstein, was also purchased by Davis and Fox.

Landis has written and directed two short comedic features that have been published on YouTube. With scenes played out by his classmates and Hollywood actors, The Death and Return of Superman (2012) mocks DC Comics' 1992--1993 story-line of Superman's death and revival. In a nutshell, wrestling Isn't Wrestling (2015) explores the essence of professional wrestling, including several actors and wrestlers in cameos, as well as numerous actors and wrestlers. Landis was later hired as a wrestling consultant by WWE Raw.

Landis produced a "superhero police drama" TV series Vigilant to Fox in September 2012 and planned to executive produce it with Homeland producer Howard Gordon, but the project was cancelled. Landis began working on Me Him Her, his directorial debut, which received a limited release in March 2016 to mixed reviews. Mixed critiques and dismal box office results were given for his 2015 film American Ultra, based on his screenplay.

Landis' "One Last Time" music video directed Ariana Grande's music video in February 2015. He was accused of plagiarizing the style and themes of the video from Australian band SAFIA's "You Are the One" music video.

Netflix started production on Landis' script for Bright in 2016, followed by its most costly self-produced film. When the film was first released in December 2017, it was critically panned, but Netflix announced that it was well-liked with its followers.

Landis' website "A Scar No One Else Can See" had a 150-page explanation of Carly Rae Jepsen's songs, arguing that they convey a grim, three-part story of heartbreak and rejection. Although Landis called the effort a "celebration" of Jepsen, the paper was regarded as a conspiracy theory by The Daily Dot and Pride.com, as well as Reid McCarter of The A.V. The club's findings were dismissed as unremarkable.

Landis drafted a draft of Shadow in the Cloud (2020) before being barred from the project due to sex harassment charges. Although Roseanne Liang's script was rewritten, he deserved praise as a writer for the Writers Guild of America.

Landis launched Glass Planet Consulting, a "creative coaching and consultancy service for screenwriters living and working in Los Angeles" in February 2020.
