Real-life secessionists call hit movie Civil War '100% plausible,' as a power-hungry federal government has trampled on the US Constitution for too long

Texas secessionist Daniel Miller has since 1996 pushed for the Lone Star state to exit the union, in what's known as 'Texit.' A movie about exactly that has proven an unexpected box office hit this month, pulling in $45.7 million across North America. Miller says writer and director Alex Garland's ominous dystopia has tapped a nerve. 'Texas independence, or the breakup of the union, keeps occurring in popular culture,' says Miller. 'The release of the movie is pouring gasoline on the fire of the conversation around Texit.'

Forget the fictional new film... What a modern-day American civil war would REALLY look like and why it's NOT as far-fetched as you might think

Flanked by two marines, President Joe Biden steps out of the Marine One chopper onto the tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base to declare a national emergency. It's 6pm on January 6 , 2025, 20 miles from Washington DC . 'Four years ago, on this very day, Donald Trump tried to steal democracy,' says the 82-year-old Commander-in-Chief, removing his Aviator sunglasses to signal the gravity of his point. 'He's doing it again, folks. We must stop him, no matter what.' From now on, Biden decrees, Trump's Make America Great Again (Maga) movement will be designated a terrorist group. The Trump-owned Truth Social platform will be shut down. All internet sites publishing 'electoral misinformation' will be blocked. Cut! Let's stop the paranoid imaginings there. But that scenario is hardly more far-fetched than Civil War, a new film set in the near future, about a catastrophic U.S. revolution. British writer-director Alex Garland has conjured up a plot in which the 'Western Forces' - a somewhat improbable alliance between Texas and California - battles against a delusional dictator-president of the USA. But what would a US civil war in the modern age REALLY be like?

Civil War review: Hot shot Kirsten Dunst sizzles as war-torn America burns, writes PETER HOSKIN

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 11, 2024
Gosh. Imagine if America got so polarised - between red and blue, between haves and have-nots, between faiths, creeds and colours - that people decided to storm the seats of government. Crazy, right? It could certainly never happen in real life. So Hollywood has had to step in and step up. Alex Garland's Civil War is about an American civil war, though it's not in the sepia tones of the 19th century - it's in the lurid shades of the here and now. It begins with the president, played by Nick Offerman, practising his delivery of a televised broadcast. He's claiming a great victory on some front or other, implying that the rebellion will soon be quashed, but the streets beg to differ. Outside, all is fire and chaos. After that opening sequence, President Offerman takes a back seat for the rest of the movie - though he becomes its target, in more ways than one.
