Alex Collins Life

Alex Collins, a football running back who is currently a free agent, was born on August 26, 1994.

In the fifth round, 171st overall, of the 2016 NFL Draft, he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks.

He spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before being suspended following an arrest.

He played college football at Arkansas.

Early years

Collins was a letterman at South Plantation High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was a letterman in football, basketball, lacrosse, and track. Doug Gatewood had him coached. As the Paladins won seven games and qualified for the state playoffs, he was named Broward County Player of the Year as a sophomore after rushing for 1,786 yards and 28 touchdowns. Despite missing three games due to injury, he rushed South Plantation to nine victories, the district championship, and a berth in the 8A state playoffs as a senior. He was selected to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, where he was teammates with fellow Arkansas signee Austin Allen during his senior season.

Collins, a gifted sprinter, competed for third place in South Plantation's state-champion 4 100 m relay (41.98 s), earning him the accolade of the year's Best Male Athlete of the Year in 2013.

Collins was rated by Rivals.com as the 13th best running back in his class. Collins pledged to play college football at the University of Arkansas in February 2013.

Collins' mother gave us some of the LOI's momentary drama on signing day when she refused to sign the National Letter of Intent (LOI) for him to attend school in Arkansas but then ran away with the LOI. Collins wanted to stay close to home and attend the University of Miami, so she decided to stay close to home and attend the University of Miami. Bret Bielema, Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema, faxed another LOI to Collins, which had been signed by his father.

Alex Collins Career

College career

Collins played for the University of Arkansas from 2013 to 2015. In his first three games, he became the first true freshman in SEC history to rush for 300 yards. Jonathan Williams' time as a quarterback ended the year with 1,026 passing yards on 190 tackles for four touchdowns. He was named the 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year for his work.

Collins had 1,100 yards on 204 attempts in his sophomore season in 2014, while still splitting time with Williams. He also helped lead Arkansas to a victory over the Texas Longhorns in a Texas Bowl.

Collins came back to Bret Bielema's offense after Williams was down with an injury before the 2015 season, so he was the first to play in the Bret Bielema's offense. Collins played every game his junior season, and against Ole Miss on November 7, 2015, he became the third player in SEC history to rush for 1,000 yards in three seasons, joining Herschel Walker and Darren McFadden. Collins finished his junior season with a career-high 1,577 yards and a school-record 20 rushing touchdowns. He was named second-team all-SEC, mainly because Alabama's Derrick Henry and LSU's Leonard Fournette outrushed him and became All-Americans. On January 2, 2016, Collins led Arkansas to a Liberty Bowl victory over Kansas State. He won the 45-23 victory with 185 yards and three rushing touchdowns, earning MVP awards.

Collins ranks second on the Razorback career rushing yards list (3,703), behind only Darren McFadden (4,590).

Professional career

Collins delivered an open letter to Arkansas voters announcing that he would forego his senior season and enter the 2016 NFL Draft. He was projected to be the third best running back by CBSSports.com prior to the combine and was rated third best running back by CBSSports.com. He attended the NFL Combine and completed nearly all of the required drills, but decided not to attend the short shuttle or three-cone drill due to a migraine. His combination effort was described as underwhelming and mediocre. Collins, Brandon Allen, Jonathan Williams, Denver Kirkland, Mitchell Loewen, Sebastian Tretola, and five others all attended Arkansas' pro day on March 16, 2016. He undertook positional drills and gained four inches to his vertical, resulting in a 3212. Collins had a pre-draft visit with Miami Dolphins spokesman Paul Collins on April 12, 2016. Collins was expected to be a third or fourth round pick by the majority of NFL draft experts and analysts at the conclusion of the pre-draft process. Sports Illustrated and Pro Football Focus rated him as the fifth best running back in the draft. Collins was also ranked as the tenth best running back by NFLDraftScout.com.

Collins was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round (171st overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was one of three running backs for the Seattle Seahawks in 2016 and ranked third overall, 90th overall) and Zac Brooks (seventh round, 247th overall). Jonathan Williams, Arkansas' former teammate and backup, was chosen before him by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round (156th overall).

Collins signed a four-year contract worth $2.2 million in total with a $184,000 bonus on May 6, 2016.

Collins began training with Thomas Rawls, Christine Michael, C. J. Prosise, Zac Brooks, and Troymaine Pope, who were all excited about the position as the starting running back after it was left vacant following Marshawn Lynch's departure. After Thomas Rawls' absence from training camp due to injury and C.J. Prosise missed a stretch of camp due to a hamstring injury, Collins had an amazing training camp. After a disappointing preseason, head coach Pete Carroll named Collins as the fourth running back on the Seattle Seahawks' depth chart behind Christine Michael, Thomas Rawls, and C. J. Prosise.

In the Seattle Seahawks' Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, he made his professional debut in the Seattle Seahawks' Week 2 matchup but had no gain on two carries. In a 37-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Collins had 12 running yards on four runs for his first two receptions of his career. Russell Wilson's first pass from him was good in the first quarter, when he gained nine yards. During Seattle's 26-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on October 16, 2016, Collins had a nine-yard reception and one carry for his second touchdown of his career and his first touchdown of his career. In 11 games, Collins finished his rookie season with 31 passes for 125 yards and one rushing touchdown. He also caught 11 passes for 84 yards. In two playoff games, Collins had eight carries for rushing 27 yards and three receptions for 28 receiver yards.

The Seattle Seahawks debuted at the top of the NFC West in 2010 after a 10-5-0-1 season, winning a playoff berth. In the Seahawks' 26-6 win over the Detroit Lions in the Wild Card Round on January 7, 2017, Collins had six carries for 13 yards and one 11-yard reception. In the Divisional Round, they lost by a score of 36-20.

Collins competed with Thomas Rawls, Eddie Lacy, Chris Carson, C. J. Prosise, John Bennett, C. D. McKissic, and J. D. McKissic from the start of running back, starting with running back. The Seahawks had fielded trade offers for Collins and cornerback Jeremy Lane on August 30, 2017. Collins, Eddie Lacy, Thomas Rawls, and C. J. Prosise were expected to have the majority of the carries.

The Seahawks waived Collins on September 2, 2017.

Collins was admitted to the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad on September 5, 2017. After Kenneth Dixon strained his meniscus in preparation camp, the Baltimore Ravens signed Collins and former Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford to add depth.

After Danny Woodhead was hurt in the season-opener and was projected to miss four weeks, Collins was promoted to the active roster on September 16, 2017. On the depth chart, head coach John Harbaugh named him as the Ravens' third running back. In the 24–10 victory over the Cleveland Browns, Collins made his Baltimore Ravens debut on Saturday and had seven carries for 42 rushing yards and one fumble. Collins made his first appearance against the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 10, 2017 and ended in a 26–9 loss with nine rushing yards and a fumble. In the Ravens' 40–0 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, he rushed for a career high of 113 yards on 18 attempts on 18 attempts and two others for 30-yards. Although Danny Woodhead returned to work in Week 9, Collins stayed the starting running back and maintained his carries.

Collins played his fifth straight start and 20 carries on Sunday, while on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter of a 23-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers on November 19, 2017. After analysts chastised him for fumbling twice in three games and worried about his ball security going forward, he had seven straight games without a fumble. In a 23-16 victory over the Houston Texans on November 27, 2017, he had 16 carries for 60 yards and scored an eight-yard touchdown run.

In a 44-20 victory over the Detroit Lions, Collins had 75 passing yards and 23 receiving yards to go along with a career-high two touchdowns. He ran the ball 18 times for a touchdown, as well as intercepting two passes for 46 yards, giving the Ravens total 152 yards on the field. Despite what was arguably the best game of his career so far, the Steelers barely won in the 38-39 shootout.

Collins led the Ravens in rushing yards for the 2017 season, with 973 yards and six rushing touchdowns.

Collins was expected to return to the Ravens in 2018 for the first time since being drafted. He appeared in ten games, scoring 411 yards and seven touchdowns, as well as 15 touchdown receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown. Due to a foot injury, he was put on injured reserve on December 1, 2018.

Collins was waived by the Ravens on March 1, 2019, after he was arrested following a car accident that morning. On October 3, 2019, he pleaded guilty to more than ten grams of marijuana and the carrying of a handgun in a car and was sentenced to 18 months unsupervised probation. By the NFL's personal conduct policy, he was suspended three weeks for violating the league's personal conduct policy. On November 19, 2019, he was released from service.

Collins was welcomed to the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad on November 4, 2020. On November 7, 2020, November 14, 2020, and January 2, 2021 for the team's weeks 9, 10, 17 games against the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers, he was recalled to the practice squad after each game. He scored a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. He ran the ball for 29 yards on five attempts against the San Francisco 49ers, with some of his game-sealing eight-yard touchdown runs against the San Francisco 49ers. He was activated again for the team's Wild Card Round match against the Rams, and he was recalled to the practice squad after the match. After the season ended on January 18, 2021, the team's practice squad contract came to an end.

Collins re-signed with the club on February 24, 2021. Collins finished with 108 passes for 411 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the 2021 season, as well as nine receptions for 87 yards. He appeared in six games.
