Mixed martial arts career

Pérez made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2005, winning regional promotions around Mexico. He was able to put together a record of 14 - 5 before going out for The Ultimate Fighter in 2014.

Pérez, a cast member of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, was revealed in May 2014 when competing for Team Velasquez.

Pérez first defeated Fredy Serrano in the quarterfinals by unanimous vote over the course of the show. Pérez advanced to the semifinals after defeating Guido Cannetti by a knockout in the first round.

Pérez made his UFC debut on November 15, 2014 at UFC 180, versus fellow castmate and former rival José Alberto Quiánez in the bantamweight finals. Pérez won the tournament by a unanimous vote.

Pérez debuted Patrick Williams at UFC 188 on June 13, 2015. In the first round, he was disqualified by submission.

Pérez defeated Scott Jorgensen at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale on November 21, 2015. Since Jorgensen was unable to continue after injuring his ankle, he won the competition via TKO in the second round.

On April 10, 2016, Pérez confronted Ian Entwistle at UFC Fight Night 86. In the first round, he defeated him via TKO and received a Certificate of the Night.

Pérez was scheduled to face Manny Gamburyan at UFC Fight Night 94 on September 17, 2016. However, Gamburyan pulled out of the war in mid-August for undisclosed personal reasons, and Albert Morales took their place. The game was deemed a majority draw.

Pérez had been scheduled to meet Rob Font in The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale on December 3, 2016. However, Pérez pulled out of the contest on November 24. Matt Schnell, a promotional newcomer, had him replace him.

Pérez fought Andre Soukhamthath at UFC Fight Night 114 on August 5, 2017. He won the battle by a split decision.

Pérez defeated Iuri Alcântara at UFC Fight Night 123 on December 9, 2017. He was voted unanimously in the fight.

Pérez appeared at UFC on Fox 29 on April 14, 2018. In the second round, he secured the fight via TKO.

At UFC Fight Night 133, Pérez defeated Eddie Wineland on July 14, 2018. He was given a unanimous decision.

Pérez was supposed to face Song Yadong on March 2, 2019 at UFC 235. However, it was announced on January 11, 2019 that he had withdrawn on January 11 for an undisclosed reason. Cody Stamann had him removed. Pérez was defeated by a unanimous decision in the fight. The match against Yadong Song had been postponed and finally took place at UFC 239. Pérez was disqualified in the first round due to a knockout.

Pérez was supposed to meet Thomas Almeida at UFC Fight Night 179 on October 11, 2020. However, Pérez was forced out due to a positive test for COVID-19 on October 2nd.

On October 2, 2021, Pérez met Johnny Eduardo at UFC Fight Night 193. In round two, he gained the fight by a scarf hold armlock. This win earned him the Performance of the Night award.
