Music career

Alborosie decided to try a solo career in 2001. He migrated to Jamaica to be close to reggae music's roots and Rastafari roots. He began as a sound engineer and producer in New York. Alborosie appeared at the Uppsala Reggae Festival in August 2008.
The name "Alborosie" derives from a name he was given in the early years after moving to Jamaica. "They used to call me "borosie." Let me make it look like this. My first visit to Jamaica was...not pleasant. Borosie was a nickname they used to call me and it has a negative meaning. "I'm gonna use this name and mash up the place, convert a negative into a good thing," I said. My name is Albert, so I say 'Al', Al-borosie'. I'm not going to tell you what borosie means."
Alborosie's debut album, Soul Pirate, contained hit singles "Rastafari Anthem," "Kingston Town," and "Call Up Jah," both on his own record label, Forward Recordings, in 2006.
On Greensleeves Records, he released his second album, Escape From Babylon, in 2009. He has performed concerts around the world, including much of Europe and Jamaica, over the years. On Greensleeves Records in 2010, he also produced Escape from Babylon to the Kingdom of Zion.
