He played for or participated in five seasons in Major League Baseball, from 1980 to 1984, all for the Minnesota Twins. In 1975, Williams was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent.
He spent two seasons in the Pirates' minor leagues, but was released by Pittsburgh because the Nicaraguan government refused to give him a visa to leave the country to play baseball in the United States.
