Alan Ball Life

Alan Erwin Ball (born May 13, 1957) is an American writer, producer, and actor for television, film, and theater. He wrote the screenplay for American Beauty for which he received an Academy Award.

He also created the series Six Feet Under and True Blood, for which he received an Emmy Award and the Writer's, Directors, and Producers Guilds.

Early life

Ball was born in Marietta, Georgia, to Frank and Mary Ball, respectively an aircraft inspector and a homemaker. When Ball was 13 years old, his older sister, Mary Ann, was killed in a car crash; he was in the passenger seat at the time. He attended high school in Marietta before going to college at the University of Georgia and Florida State University. Ball received a bachelor's degree in theater arts from Florida State in 1980.

He began working as a playwright at the General Nonsense Theater Company in Sarasota, Florida, after college.

Personal life

In numerous interviews, Ball has discussed his Buddhist faith, noting how it has influenced his filmmaking. Ball spoke to Amazon.com about the plastic bag controversy in American Beauty, saying, "I had a contact with a plastic bag!" And I didn't have a video camera like Ricky does... The miraculous within the mundane exists, according to a Buddhist belief, and I think we live in a society that encourages us not to search for such things." In Six Feet Under and True Blood, Ball has also discussed how his Buddhism has influenced themes, which he has greatly contributed to.

Ball is gay and has been described as "a leading voice for [the] LGBT group." He was named on Out magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential gay men and women in 2008.

After scoring my hat-trick in the World Cup final, I went home to mow the lawn and wash the car. No wonder GEOFF HURST's wife Judith can't stand today's pampered WAGs - as the last surviving hero of 1966 reveals in new memoir

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 18, 2024
Footballers today are too namby-pamby, and they're badly marred by gamesmanship. The sight of players diving to gain an advantage - to get a foul or win a penalty - is disgraceful. Stratospheric salaries have created a huge gap between the players and the fans whose season tickets and TV subscriptions pay their wages. The afternoon after my hat-trick, I went home to Hornchurch and mowed the lawn. The car looked like it could use a wash, so I did that, too. I think it's safe to say Judith's experience had almost nothing in common with the glamorous life of a modern footballer's wife.

Can Everton stop carousel of chaos and give Goodison a fitting farewell? The Toffees' final season at their old decaying ground is apt - but brighter times await

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 16, 2024
LEWIS STEELE: This is a mistreated club where time has stood still - certainly off the pitch with a carousel of chaos at board level in recent years - but one for whom a brighter future awaits on the horizon. On this particular morning there are blue skies but, still, gloomy clouds often congregate above the stunning new docklands stadium. While there are green shoots of positivity - which we will come on to - Everton are still the Premier League's most uncertain club.
