Ajay Jadeja (pronunciation born 1 February 1971), also known as Ajay Jadeja, is an Indian former professional cricketer who served with the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2000.

He appeared in 15 Test matches and 196 One Day Internationals for India. His cricket exploits were overshadowed by a five-year suspension for match fixing.

The ban was later struck by the Delhi High Court on January 27, 2003, making Jadeja eligible to play domestic and international cricket.

In the late 1990s, he was best known for striking and quick finishing of the overs.

Personal life

Jadeja was born into a young Nawanagar royal family. It has a cricketing pedigree. His relatives include K. S. Ranjitsinhji, after whom the Ranji Trophy is named, and K. S. Duleepsinhji, for whom the Duleep Trophy is named. Jadeja's Father, Daulatsinhji Jadeja, was a third member of Parliament from Jamnagar Loksabha. His mother, who is a native of Alappuzha, Kerala, is a student at the University of Alappuzha. Jadeja is married to Aditi Jaitly, Jaya Jaitly's daughter, and the couple have two children, Aiman and Ameera.

He began his studies at the Bhawan University in New Delhi, Bhawan. He was later transferred to Rajkumar College in Rajkot. He didn't like boarding school and skipped away 13 times in a particular year. He remained in New Delhi at the Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, where he began his training. Aditi Jaitly appeared here. He later enrolled in higher education at Hindu College, Delhi.

International career

Jadeja was a regular in the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2000, playing 15 Test matches and 196 One Day Internationals. He was regarded as one of India's top fielders at his time. In the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarter-finals in Bengaluru against arch rivals Pakistan, with 40 off the final two overs by Waqar Younis. Jadeja, along with Mohammed Azharuddin, holds the record for the highest one-day partnership between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Jadeja was also known for his exceptional field work and was regarded as one of the Indian team's most trustworthy pair of hands during his tenure.

In another memorable moment in his career, he was taking 3 wickets for 3 runs in 1 over against England in Sharjah to win the match for India. In 13 One-day matches, Jadeja has captained India. The Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, where the quarter-finals against Pakistan were held in 1996, was one of the most popular hunting grounds. In the Pepsi Asia Cup, Jadeja represented Pakistan for the last time. In a game that India eventually lost, he scored 93 points. Jadeja was the top scorer with 8 fours and four sixes.
