Aisling Loftus (born 1 September 1990) is an English actor.

Loftus is best known for his role as Agnes Towler on the ITV series Mr Selfridge and Sonya Rostova on the BBC historical period drama series War & Peace.

Early and personal life

Loftus was born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and the niece of Irish parents, Paddy and Eileen Loftus; she has a younger sister, Aoife. She began acting at the age of nine at the Carlton Workshops and then took her A-Levels at the Becket School in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. She appeared in several small television dramas and films, including This Is England.

Loftus married actor Jacob Anderson in December 2018. She and Anderson are parents of a daughter, who was born in July 2020.

Acting career

Loftus made her mainstream television debut in 2000 as she appeared in a Peak Practice episode. Loftus has appeared in a number of television series, including Casualty, Doctors, The Bill, and ITV's comedy drama The Fatest Man in Britain, starring Timothy Spall and Bobby Ball.

In 2008, Loftus was dubbed a "star of tomorrow" in Screen International magazine. She also appeared in Daniel Elliott's short Jade, which earned a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2009.

Gemma Adams, a murder survivor of BBC Five Daughters, appeared in the BBC drama Five Daughters in 2010. In a cast that featured Skins actor Jack O'Connell, Eddie Marsan, Gina McKee, Joseph Mawle, and Ewen Bremner, she appeared in another BBC drama, Dive, by BAFTA award-winning Dominic Savage and Simon Stevens in July. According to Euan Ferguson of The Observer, Dive was highly praised, Aisling "Ash" Loftus will be a "phenomenon"."

Anya Reiss, a singer, hit Spur of the Moment in London in 2010, where she has received lauded reviews from Dominic Cavendish of The Daily Telegraph as her "superb." In February 2017, she appeared in Touched by Stephen Lowe, Nottingham Playhouse's fortieth anniversary production.

Loftus appeared in a recent BBC television film version of The Borrowers broadcast on Boxing Day as Arrietty. This was a sequel to Good Cop and Cassandra in 2012, and Agnes Towler in ITV's Mr. Selfridge in 2013. In 2016, she appeared in the BBC drama War & Peace as Sonya Rostova.
