Adrienne Shelly Life

Adrienne Levine (June 24, 1966 – November 1, 2006), better known as Adrienne Shelley (occasionally credited as Adrienne Shelley), was an American actor, film producer, and screenwriter.

She became well-known for her roles in independent films, including 1989's The Unbelievable Truth and 1990's Trust.

Waitress, a 2007 posthumously released film, was written, co-starred, and directed. Shelly was discovered dead in the bathtub of her Greenwich Village work studio apartment on November 1, 2006.

The initial investigation of the scene revealed no suspicious findings, and police seemed to have suspected it to be a suicide.

Her husband argued she would not have taken her own life and ordered a re-examination of the bathroom that revealed a suspicious footprint.

Shelly was killed by a construction worker who admitted to murdering her and making it seem as if she had committed suicide. Shelly's husband established the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, which gives artist scholarships, production grants, finishing funds, and living stipends.

The Women Film Critics Circle honors a film that "most notably opposes violence against women" as a result of the film's recognition.

Early life

Shelly Levine was born in Queens, but Sheldon Levine and Elaine Langbaum followed him. She had two brothers and was raised on Long Island. She first performed at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center when she was about ten years old. Shelly made her professional debut in a summer stock production of the musical Annie while attending Jericho High School in Jericho, New York. She studied film at Boston University, majoring in filmmaking, but she dropped out after her junior year and moved to Manhattan.

Personal life

Shelly, who took her professional surname from her late father's name, was married to Andy Ostroy, chairman and CEO of Belardi/Ostroy. They married in 2002 on Match.com and had Sophie (born 2003), who was two years old at the time of her mother's death. Shelly had written Waitress when she was pregnant with her daughter Sophie. Shelly referred to herself as a "optimistic agnostic."
