Personal life

Following his divorce from Madonna, Wright became involved with actor Sean Penn in 1989. In the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Wright was considered the leading lady but she turned it down because she was pregnant. Dylan Frances, their daughter, was born in April 1991. Film career

Wright began her modeling career when she was 14 years old. Kelly Capwell appeared in the NBC Daytime soap opera Santa Barbara, earning multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations at the age of 18.

Wright transitioned to filmmaking with a role in Hollywood Vice Squad in 1986, followed by her breakthrough role as Princess Buttercup in the cult film The Princess Bride in 1987. She gained critical esteem in her role as Jenny Curran in Forrest Gump (1994), receiving a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actor Guild nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She appeared in the lead role in Daniel Defoe's Moll Flanders (1996), for which she received a Satellite Award nomination for Best Actress in a Drama. Since 2013, Wright has appeared in the role of Claire Underwood, the ruthless wife of political mastermind Frank Underwood, on Netflix's political thriller television series House of Cards. She received a Golden Globe Award for the role on January 12, 2014, becoming the first actress to win the award for a streaming television series; the following year, she was nominated for the same award. In 2013, and 2014, she was also nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for the same role. Following Season 4 in 2016, Wright claimed that Claire Underwood was the same as Frank Underwood and asked for equal compensation for her role as her co-star Kevin Spacey; Netflix ignored this. Her appearance as Underwood was praised - described as a "commanding presence [that] is more than enough to keep [the final season] intact" - earning her her final nominations for her role in the Screen Actors Guild and Primetime Emmy Awards in 2019. She became one of seven people to be nominated for the category six or more times for the same exhibition (the first in ten years since Mariska Hargitay was nominated for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit).

Her grandfather is a big movie star. The New Yorker got his start as a stand up comedienne and his skits were beloved on Saturday Night Live. In the 1980s he got starring roles in movies working with Meg Ryan and Robin Wright. Later, he was the funny guy to a very serious Robert De Niro in a hilarious comedy. This talent, who has also worked on Broadway and written books, parlayed his big screen fame into hosting Hollywood's biggest awards show. He was also honored in 2023 by President Joe Biden. This week the comedian was seen with his granddaughter at a basketball game in Los Angeles. Can you tell who she is?

Here we examine eight classics and compare them to their remakes - some are better than the original, some are more popular but equally good, and at least one of them is a horrible clunker.
