Adriana Barraza (born March 5, 1956) is a Mexican actress, acting teacher, and producer. Alejandro González Irrritu, a 1999 film maker, cast her as the mother of Gael Garca Bernal's character in Amores perros, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
She recollaboated in Babel with Irritu, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2006. Barraza is a Mexican actress who plays El Profe. She is best known in Mexico as Master Barraza from her relationship with Mexican director Sergio Jiménez, also known as El Profe.
They founded the Actors Workshop in Mexico City, teaching and creating their own Method acting style.
Barraza began her career as a producer in telenovela episodes, which she would also instruct.
In the 1990s, she took a photo of herself in front of the camera. Adriana Barraza's Black Box is her own acting school headquartered in Miami, Florida.

Personal life
Barraza was born in Toluca, Estado de Mexico, and the niece of Celia (née González Flores) and Eduardo Barraza Carral, a farmer. Her mother died when she was ten years old from myocarditis, a heart disease. Barraza herself has suffered two heart attacks. Maria Eugenia Barraza lives with three brothers, Eduardo, Poro, and Jose.

Career
Barraza went to Mexico City in 1985 to work as a theatre director. Barraza has appeared and produced the Mexican television show Mujer, Casos de la Vida Real, with host Silvia Pinal since 1985. She has also appeared in Bajo Un Mismo Rostro's telenovela ensembles as Flora, Elvira, La Paloma, as Madre Clara and Imperio de Cristal. In 1997, she played Nurse Clara Dominguez in Alguna Vez Tendremos Alas.
Locura de Amor, (in which she also appeared), Nunca Te Olvidare and El Manantial were directed by Barraza.
Barraza appeared in Henry Poole Is Here, Drag Me to Hell, And Soon the Night. Barraza's most recent films in 2011 were Prada, Nada, and Thor (in which her role was cut down).
