Adam Armstrong Career

Club career

Armstrong, a lifelong Newcastle fan, joined the club at the age of nine and progressed through the ranks, scoring five times in his first five Professional Development League matches.

Armstrong was used as a replacement in Newcastle's Premier League match against Norwich City on January 28, 2014, but he was left unused in the goalless draw at Carrow Road. Armstrong made his 86th-minute replacement for Luuk de Jong in a league loss to Fulham on March 15, making him the second youngest player to play for Newcastle in the Premier League after Kazenga LuaLua.

Armstrong played his first game for Newcastle in a League Cup third round match against Crystal Palace on September 24, 2014. Newcastle defeated Newcastle 3–2 in extra time, with Armstrong assisting with two of Newcastle's goals. Armstrong made his first Premier League appearance on December 26th in a 3–1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Armstrong joined Coventry City on a youth loan from August 28 to January 16, 2016. In a 2–0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the first game of the new League One season on August 8, he made his debut on August 8, scoring both goals. He scored another brace in a 4–0 win over Millwall, with the first goal coming from 35 yards out. In 1992, Micky Quinn, a former Newcastle and Newcastle legend, challenged him to smash his record of ten goals in his first six games, moving from the North East to the West Midlands. Armstrong won the League One Player of the Month award for August after scoring again in his next match against Crewe Alexandra on August 18th.

Armstrong scored his sixth goal against Chesterfield on September 19, and he netted his third brace of the season on October 3 in a 3–0 victory over Shrewsbury Town. In home victories over Peterborough United and Barnsley on October 31 and September 3, the former saw his team come from 1–2 behind with ten minutes to go. Armstrong won by 5–0 over Crewe Alexandra on January 2, 2016, tying for his first senior hat-trick.

Armstrong's loan was extended until the end of the season on January 14, 2016. In his 40 Coventry appearances, he scored 20 goals on the season. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year for League One in April.

Armstrong joined Newcastle on an initial six-month loan contract, despite making two appearances for the Newcastle Tigers, beginning with his father's injury in 2016. He made his Tykes debut as a backheel on September 10th, replacing Ryan Kent in the case of a 2–1 victory over Preston North End, scoring the winning goal with a left-footed curling effort after outpacing and losing his marker with a backheel. Armstrong had already signed a loan contract with the club until the end of the 2016–17 season, according to the club's January 2017-downing.

Armstrong joined Bolton Wanderers in the Championship from July 17 to the following January. Stephen Darby made his debut for the club on August 6th, coming as a late replacement for Stephen Darby in Bolton's 3–2 home loss to Leeds United before getting his first appearance in the EFL Cup at Crewe Alexandra, scoring in a 2–1 win. Armstrong was released from his loan repayment service on January 4th, 2018, and he has appeared in 23 different tournaments.

Armstrong joined EFL League One's Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season on January 9, 2018. At the first time of asking, he helped Blackburn secure promotion to the EFL Championship.

Armstrong signed for Blackburn Rovers on a four-year deal for an undisclosed sum estimated to be in the region of £1.75 million. He scored three hat-tricks against Wycombe Wanderers, Huddersfield Town, and Birmingham City throughout the 2021-2021 season.

Armstrong made his 160 appearances for Rovers, including 29 goals in his final season with them, scoring 64 League and Cup goals.

Armstrong signed Southampton's Premier League contract on a four-year contract for an undisclosed amount, estimated at £15 million. He scored on his debut for the club, defeating Everton 3–1 on the first day of the Premier League season.

International career

Armstrong has represented England at under-16 and under-17 years. In a 5–0 win over Northern Ireland in the Victory Shield on September 27, 2012, he made his debut for the Under-16 team, while England retained the tournament for the twelfth year in a row, beating Wales and Scotland. After replacing Izzy Brown in the second half, he scored his first goal in a friendly against Germany on February 13, 2013. He was selected in the England squad to compete in the 2013 Montaigu Tournament in France, with England facing Germany, Netherlands, and Chile. England started the tournament with a 1–1 draw against the Netherlands, followed Chile 3–1 in the second game, with goals from Patrick Roberts and Giorgio Rasulo. England qualified as group champions and met Turkey in the final after a 1–1 draw with Germany in the final game. Armstrong scored in the final, but England lost on penalties after the game had ended 2–2.

This was his last game for the under-16 team as he progressed to the under-17 side of the FA International Tournament, hosted at St George's Park National Football Centre in Burton upon Trent, scoring on his debut in a 1–0 triumph over Turkey. He was selected in the squad for the 2014 European Under-17 Championship qualifying round matches against Armenia, Gibraltar, and Republic of Ireland, scoring twice in each of the three games as England defeated the team in scoring 18 goals without conceding a single single point. In the elite round, England was then drawn against Czech Republic, Albania, and Italy. Armstrong participated in both games, with both winnings over the Czech Republic and Albania. The result left England needing only a draw against Italy in the tournament's last game, and Armstrong led the scoring as England defeated 2–1 and sealed qualification in Malta. Armstrong was named up to England's triumphant 2014 European Under-17 Championship squad and scored twice during the tournament before he had to miss the final due to injury.

Armstrong received his first call-up to the under-18 squad on August 26, 2014. In a friendly match against the Netherlands on September 3rd, he scored on his debut with two goals. He continued his winnings against Poland and Switzerland to bring his total number to four goals in his first four caps. Armstrong scored twice in England's second game against the Swiss, who lost 6–1.

Armstrong scored for England's under-19 team away from Macedonia on October 8, 2015. Armstrong, a U20 player, scored a hat trick against Nigeria in South Korea on November 9, 2016.

In the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Armstrong was selected for the England under-20 team. In the first game against Argentina, he appeared in four games in the tournament, scoring a goal. He was an unemployed substitute in England's 1–0 victory over Venezuela, England's first victory in a global tournament since 1966, England's first victory in a global tournament since their World Cup triumph.

Mail Sport's FPL predictions: Which explosive bandwagon has fantasy managers purring ahead of Gameweek 7? Who is the 'best value pick in the game'? And can Erik ten Hag finally end his winless run at Aston Villa?

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 4, 2024
Liverpool have a shot at taking a four-point advantage over their Premier League title rivals this weekend as they get us going in the 12:30pm Saturday kick-off against Crystal Palace. The Red Devils face a trip to Aston Villa and a negative result could spell time on the Dutchman's Old Trafford reign. Erling Haaland didn't score last weekend against Newcastle, believe it or not, but still costs you the prettiest penny out of all with a price of £15.3million.

MAN UNITED CONFIDENTIAL: Instinctive Andre Onana is living up to his Italian nickname, former youth coach laments star's summer exit - and it's back to school for Kobbie Mainoo

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 17, 2024
MAN UNITED CONFIDENTIAL: Andre Onana had to rely on his goalkeeper's instinct when he made the penalty save that turned the game in Manchester United's favour at Southampton. Clubs routinely do their homework on opponents' penalty-takers and feed the data to their keepers before games, but Saints striker Cameron Archer had never stepped up to the spot in his professional career and Confidential understands he wasn't on the list given to Onana by the coaching staff that would have included Ben Brereton Diaz and Adam Armstrong.
