A single father raises his daughter after the untimely death of his wife, who passed away shortly after childbirth. The dramedy was directed by Paul Weitz from a screenplay penned by Weitz and Dana Stevens. It is based on a memoir titled Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love.

The movie was originally intended to have a theatrical run, but the distribution rights were sold to Netflix as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
