Zo Claire Wenham (born 7 May 1994) is a British auto racing driver. Wenham began her career in karting, competing in various championships between 2004 and 2008 before she moved to car racing in 2008, entering the SAXMAX series.
She appeared in the competition for two years before moving into the Volkswagen Racing Cup, where she competed for another two years.
In her debut season, she rode for Century Motorsports, making her entry into the British GT Championship in 2012.
She received the BWRDC Elite GoldStar Award at the start of 2013.
Personal life
Wenham, a former pupil of Prince Henry's High School in Evesham, Worcestershire, has a passion outside of motorsport, including netball and swimming. In the SAXMAX championship, Guy, her brother, competes for Century Motorsports. Sebastian Vettel and Jessica Ennis have been two of her idols, according to her.
Racing career
Wenham, a girl from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, began competing in the 2CKC Cadet Championship in 2004, which she won on her first attempt. She competed in the fifth year of the BWRDC Kartsport Trophy, the Clay Pigeon Club Championship Cadet, and the Hoddesdon Kart Club Championship Comer Cadet championships in 2005, placing fourth, first, and sixth respectively. She competed in the Clay Pigeon Club Championship Minimax and the Hoddesdon Kart Club Championship Minimax championships for 2006 and 2007, earning her best result in the latter series in 2007. She competed in nine races for 2008 and the Ace & King of Clubs Meeting Rotax Junior, placing 20th, and making her auto racing debut in the SAXMAX series for the first time. She returned to the series in 2009, this time driving for Ferguson Motorsports and finishing ninth overall, having participated in the whole season. Despite two outings in the SAXMAX series, she made the switch to the Volkswagen Racing Cup in 2010, where she finished 21st overall, becoming the series' youngest ever racer. She remained in the series in 2011, now driving for Slidesports in a similar vehicle, and she came in eighth overall, with a single podium her highest result.
Wenham has joined the Century Motorsport team to compete in the British GT Championship in 2012, partnering Dominic Evans in a GT4-class Ginetta G50. In her first run, she came in fourth in her first run and was on the podium in her second run, alongside Ginetta's Mark Simpson, as Evans had license issues. Evans and Wenham's pairing was a success, but she was still competing for the title with two races remaining (with Evans competing for the runner-up spot in two less races). Following that performance, Wenham had to settle for second place, the competition being won by Team WFR (and their driver pairing of Jody Fannin and Warren Hughes), with Wenham stating that her debut season had been "wonderful."
Following Wenham's acceptance of the BWRDC Elite GoldStar award in 2013, it was announced that she would continue in the series for Century Motorsport, but that Declan Jones would now be partnered with her as the team prepared to challenge the GT4 series. Both drivers won their first matches of the season, with Jones becoming one of the youngest ever winners in the series. The Guardian interviewed Wenham shortly after the case, after some outspoken remarks by former Formula One driver Stirling Moss, a strong contrast, and spoke out in response to Moss' remarks, which she sluggish. The duo of Jones and Wenham came in second place in the following round at Rockingham. This was followed by an ineffective round at Silverstone, which was borne out of mechanical injuries all weekend, and ultimately finishing 34th overall. Snetterton saw her and Jones finish third in race one and fifth in race two. She finished the season at Brands Hatch but came in second place and last overall. Due to "extenuating circumstances," she was unable to participate in the Zandvoort round and joined Blendini/Triple-R for the season finale, partnering Rory Bryant. With 130.5 points, she finished fifth in the GT4 drivers' standings for the season. She was chosen as the UK's only representative for the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup selection shootout in November. Nonetheless, she was dissatisfied, and Lucile Cypriano was given the scholarship.
