According to ALEX BRUMMER, debt-fueled companies are bringing major British businesses to their knees

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 27, 2024
Private equity takeovers of British listed companies have existed for many years: the demise of Debenhams, Cobham's defenestration, and more recently, holing out of The Body Shop have all been apparent. The Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee has dissuaded some withering condemnation of buyouts and is now conducting a deeper review.

New York high school baseball team throws away championship by celebrating too early

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 29, 2023
Yogi Berra's adage, 'til it's over,' reared its ugly head in the New York State sectional baseball championships, as one team celebrated too early, giving their opposition the trophy early. Hornell High School took the lead against Palmyra-Macedon, who had a runner on base, in the championship game for Section V in Batavia, New York's Finger Lakes area. The home plate umpire called a third strike after Pal-Mac scored three runs in the seventh and final innings leading up to this at-bat.

As a judge announces that the ex-president will appear in a NY fraud trial later this fall, Trump will face a fresh blow

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2023
Former President Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit by the state AG accusing him of miscalculating his real estate firm's value and own net worth, according to a New York judge. Last September, Attorney General Letitia James sued Trump, his adult children Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka, and the Trump Organization. In what she described as a'staggering' fraud, the suspected scheme raised Trump's money by billions of dollars over a decade of lies to banks and insurers. A federal appeals court upheld a Trump administration decision to prohibit bump stocks because they enable people to fire multiple rounds from semi-automatic rifles. Following the killing of 58 people at a Las Vegas country music festival in October 2017, a gunman used them to kill 58 people.

Aaron Rodgers of the Packers continues to recommend ayahuasca, saying that it helped him beat his fear of death

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 14, 2022
To Yoo-Hoo, Michael Jordan was to Gatorade or Yogi Berra, Aaron Rodgers was to ayahuasca, the South American psychoactive brew used in shamanic spiritual medicine. During his latest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the reigning NFL MVP reiterated that he enjoys the hallucinogenic tea, advising the former Colts pund and his old Packers teammate, AJ Hawk, that he no longer worries about death after tripping on ayahuasca prior to the 2020 and 2021 seasons. 'I certainly had a fear of death,' Rodgers said. 'And ayahuasca and psilocybin [mushrooms] helped me with that and de-escalated a lot of anxiety about the prospect of having to do things before I die,'

The 1950 World Cup victory for USA Soccer over a 70% favorite England remains the country's most recent World Cup triumph

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 12, 2022
The United States' influence on international soccer is notably limited. Since completing the country's first appearance on soccer's biggest stage in Uruguay 92 years ago, the Americans have struggled through a four-decade qualifying drought, four group stage departures, and one measly quarterfinal appearance on the country's biggest stage. After being defeated by Trinidad and Tobago, the worst of it came four years ago when the dazzling US squad began to qualify for the tournament for the first time. If there is a high point in US Soccer history, it came decades before the game has made it mainstream, but that doesn't mean it's any less important. The 'Miracle on Grass,' America's 1-0 victory over 70-1 favorites England at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil was one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history, even though its effect was felt more on one side of the Atlantic than on the other.

ALEX BRUMMER: The satellite agreement that was en route to Earth is lost

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 6, 2022
Viasat, the United States satellite champion, may have felt home and dry as it persuaded the Business Department to approve its £6.6 billion bid for British space pioneer Inmarsat. The game ain't over until it's over,' Yankees general Yogi Berra said.
