People are only just realising what used to be inside the O2 Arena before it turned into concert venue: 'Getting Willy Wonka Glasgow vibes'

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 1, 2024
The forgotten history of London 's iconic O2 Arena has resurfaced - and the eerie exhibition from its past life as the Millennium Dome has left many visitors scratching their heads in disbelief. Long before it became the distinguished concert venue we know today, the formerly-known Millennium Dome - based in the Greenwich Peninsula in south east London - was completed in 1999 and opened in 2000 to mark the new millennia. Some of its most notable attractions included Ron Mueck's giant 'Boy' sculpture, The Millennium Coin Minting Press and The Millennium Star Jewels - which became the focus of the failed Millennium Diamond Heist on November 7, 2000. However, the project and exhibition - which ran from January 1 to December 31, 2000 - attracted barely half of the 12 million customers its sponsors forecasted, and so were deemed a failure by the press. The Dome was closed and opened temporarily in December 2003 for a Winter Wonderland experience before undergoing a transformative journey to become the O2 Arena on May 31, 2005.

Giant pumpkin is set to land in Hyde Park if Serpentine Gallery win permission for weird sculpture by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama

Plans have been submitted for a large weird polka-dotted artwork called the 'Pumpkin' by the Japanese contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama in Hyde Park. The 94-year-old is well known for her art featuring her trademark polka dots, as well as her dark, glittering light infinity rooms that pop up in major cities and subsequently flood Instagram feeds. Celebrities have flocked to her exhibitions in London, Los Angeles and New York.

People from self-sh art galleries are destroying highly coveted works of art by walking into them...backwards

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 9, 2024
According to specialist insurer Hiscox, self-taking visitors are destroying valuable artwork at museums around the world by walking backwards into paintings and displays. After objects are damaged or knocked over, Hecox's head of art and private clients, Robert Read, said that many venues are being pushed to cover rising costs from selfie-related injuries. To discourage people from causing more accidents, he said the 'pandemic of selfies' was causing museums and galleries to install defensive fences and fire enforcers to discourage people from creating more accidents.
