Yasmeen Ghauri Career

Early life and career

Ghauri was born in Montreal to a German mother and a Pakistani father. Ghauri, a Muslim girl, had a difficult childhood after being mocked at school by her peers for her Pakistani roots. When she was 12, she and her parents rode a jihadist pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

When she was 17, Ghauri was discovered while working at a McDonald's restaurant by Montreal hairdresser and artistic director of Platine Coiffure, Edward Zaccaria.

Despite her parents' disapproving, Ghauri embarked on a modeling career, debuting in Milan and Paris before heading to New York City in 1990. She was noticed by fashion commentators and labels alike, so here's what you need to hear about her. The New York Times characterized her runway walk as a "ball-bearing swivel of her hips." Her appearance triggered a portion of what is now known as the "Canadian invasion" in fashion.

In Hip-Cutout Flares, Megan Stallion Flares says she has the appearance of a 1970s Disco Queen

www.popsugar.co.uk, March 30, 2023
Megan Thee Stallion won gold in a retro two-piece set on March 28. At The Hollywood Reporter's Power Stylists Dinner in Los Angeles, the rapper resembled a '70s disco queen in a ruched bralette and flared trousers with symmetrical hip cutouts. Law Roach and Designed by Julien Dossena's custom ensemble was inspired by a runway look from Paco Rabanne's 1997 ready-to-wear collection. The original Rabanne set, which was designed by Yasmeen Ghauri, featured an olive-green bra top paired with low-rise trousers adorned with gold rings. Megan's latest outfit, although it was strikingly similar, featured a bandeau top in champagne gold with a halter neckline made of interlocked gold chains. The same chains appeared again on her matching trousers at either end of the cutout.

As Tatjana Patitz dies, see what happened to her peers in the 90s

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 12, 2023
During the 90s, supermodels like Karen Mulder, Elaine Irwin, Niki Taylor, Yasmeen Ghauri, Tatjana Patitz, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington's faces were plastered everywhere. The women practically reigned the fashion industry for more than a decade, posing in hundreds of magazines, appearing in numerous campaigns, and stomping the runways for several major brands. They even came together for an iconic cover shoot for Vogue's 100th Anniversary Special issue in April 1992 - but what exactly happened to the catwalk queens? Although some of their careers flourished in the 2000s, others struggled to find jobs and eventually fell off the grid, effectively ending off the limelight. In later years, several of the former '90s style breakouts were dogged by scandal and controversy - facing run-ins with the legislation, multiple marriages, and opioid use. FEMAIL has taken a look at what happened to her modeling peers as the modeling industry is being rocked by Tatjana's death, who died of breast cancer this week at the age 56.
