Ten former NFL players have filed a class-action lawsuit against commissioner Roger Goodell, the league's health plan, and the board of trustees for denying disability claims. Willis McGahee and former New York Jets safety Eric Smith were among the plaintiffs who filed the suit in federal court on Thursday, alleging that the NFL has'repeated lies; material misrepresentation; active concealment; and [and] flagrant breaches of' statutes and case law, as well as 'illogical interpretations of the terms' of the league's compensation policy. The lawsuit charges that the NFL has improperly denied injury allegations against disabled former players due to an incorrect reliance on conflicted advisors and a "pattern of systemic bias." According to CBS News, "plaintiffs are attempting to pull back the curtain on behalf of all similarly situated former NFL players, bringing a number of important factual and legal questions regarding the Plan to light."
