According to Nicholas Buckley, author and political satirist, he died at Sibley Memorial Hospital after complications related to a fall. Buckley served in all three branches of the US government and was a hero to many in the conservative movement, but his career was dominated by his brother William F. Buckley Jr., the renowned conservative commentator. He served a single term in the Senate from 1971 to 1977 under the Conservative Party's banner - winning a three-way election that deposed an incumbent Republican. Buckley led a court challenge in 1975 to a campaign finance reform bill that placed limitations on the amount of money political candidates could invest on campaigns and the number of individuals could donate to candidates. After the Watergate corruption scandal, which prompted Richard Nixon to resign as the first president of the United States, the bill was passed by Congress.
