Wang Yung-ching (Chinese: Wáng Yongqng; 18 January 1917 – October 10, 2008), also known as YC Wang, was an entrepreneur who established a major industry empire in Taiwan.
Despite lacking any formal education outside of elementary school, he was ranked No. 2nd in the Forbes list of Taiwan's Richest in 2008.
Early life and career
Wang was born in Chyokutan jr., Shinden ku, Shinden shich, Taihoku Chô, Taihoku Chich, City (New Taipei City, Taihoku Chông) in then-Japan-ruled Taiwan.
In 1995, Marco Terragni (chairman of Italproducts) and Inteplast formed the world's largest company for Cartonplast manufacturing.
Wang served as the chairman of Formosa Plastics Corporation, one of the world's largest plastic manufacturers, until June 2006, when he resigned at the age of 89. He remained chairman of Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, Formosa Chemistry & Fibre Corporation, and Cyma Plywood & Lumber Co. Ltd, but announced that he would gradually resign from these positions to retire. He was chairman of Ming-chi Institute of Technology and the Chang Gung Medical Foundation. Wang's position in Chang Gung was filled by his younger brother Wang Yung-tsai and then third wife Lee Pao-chu after his death. He had been a vocal promoter of the Three Links between Taiwan and mainland China.
Wang's first marriage was to Wang (née Guo) Yueh-lan, with whom he had no children. Wang's first child was born in his second marriage to Yang Chiao, a total of five. Wang married Lee Pao-chu for the third time in 1935. Wang and Lee had another five children; Wang fathered a total of ten. Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing was founded by his eldest son from his second marriage to Yang Chiao, Winston Wang, the son of former Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Jiang Zemin in 2000. Charlene Wang, a father from his second marriage, founded First International Computer Inc. Cher Wang, another daughter of Cher Wang, created High Tech Computer (HTC) and VIA Technologies. Cher is one of the Wang siblings to come nearest to emulating her father's fortunes. Cher Wang's personal fortune was estimated at $8.8 billion in 2011, making her the country's richest individual at the time.
On the night of October 15, 2008, YC Wang died in his sleep at his home in Short Hills, New Jersey. He was 91 years old when he died.
