It's a smash hit, but is it WRONG to go and see Michael Jackson the Musical? Read on and decide what you think

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 25, 2024
When I first saw the posters for MJ: the Musical, I marvelled at the producers in daring to bring us a jukebox extravaganza about such a controversial figure. MJ: the Musical opened just before Easter at one of the Delfont Mackintosh theatres, the Prince Edward , and has received a mixture of sceptical and gushing reviews. So it was no surprise when, in my own household of strongly held opinions, a discussion about whether we would go to MJ: the Musical erupted into blazing debate this week. What was surprising was which side of the fault line of controversy the different generations fell.

The sneak peek did not disappoint as it began with Jackson (portrayed in the movie by the legend's own nephew Jaafar) on stage as he performed some of his greatest hits, including Man in the Mirror and Thriller. Wade Robson, 41, (top right with Jackson as a child) and James Safechuck, 46, (bottom right), allege Michael Jackson insulted them as youth at his Neverland ranch and elsewhere in the 1980s and 1990s. The pair (pictured today inset) is looking for sealed police information from Jackson's 2005 pedophily charges as part of the lawsuit against the singer's recording companies, which could go back to court as soon as next year. Michael Jackson's genuine victim, according to MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures, are 'photographs of Michael Jackson's genitalia and naked body taken by police.'

The pop star's latest biography, according to a lawyer for the two men who said in leaving Neverland Michael Jackson sexually assaulted them, is "shameful propaganda" and accuses the Jacksons of "demonizing his victims.'

The new Michael Jackson biopic has been branded by the prosecutor for two men suing the late singer for child abuse. With the film, which is set to be released next spring, John Carpenter accused Jackson's companies of'rewriting the past of what Michael Jackson did to maximize profits.' Wade Robson, a Jackson prosecutor, and James Safechuck (INSET BOTTOM) and James Safechuck (INSET TOP), the late King of Pop's treatment was "worse than you knew," Carpenter said.

How MJ: The Musical glosses over the scandals that beset the King Of Pop - with even his children appearing awkward at the press night - as critics slam the 'tedious' show despite its Broadway casting

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 28, 2024
The musical based on Michael Jackson's life premiere in 2022 debuted at the West End earlier this month. MJ: The Musical opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in London with an all dancing performance on display that glossed over the King Of Pop's numerous scandals, including numerous sexual harassment allegations. Even Michael's children were ostensible as they attended the show's press night on Wednesday, perhaps unaware of the subject matter that was largely ignored.

MJ: As a show about the King of Pop's life reveals in London, the Musical fails to address child violence allegations that have dogged Michael Jackson's career

Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning musician and lifelong Jackson supporter, said she preferred to concentrate on the singer's music rather than digging into the scandal. MJ: Jackson's life up until 1992, a year before the first sexual assault charges against him surfaced. 'Do I believe he was a paedophile? I don't know that I can say one way or another... It's sad to think that it's true, and I hope that it isn't true, but that's all I can do,' Nottage has said. Prince George, 27, Paris, 25, and Blanket, 22, attended the premiere of MJ at the Prince Edward Theatre in London on Wednesday night. Following a cardiac arrest he suffered after receiving Propofol as a sleep aid, their father died at the age of 50 in 2009.

Michael Jackson biopic under fire as Leaving Neverland director calls script draft 'startlingly disingenuous'

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 14, 2024
By leaving Neverland director Dan Reed, the script for Michael Jackson's forthcoming Michael Jackson biopic, titled Michael, has been described as'startlingly disingenuous.' According to Variety, Michael, the British filmmaker whose two-part documentary looked at allegations of sexual assault against the King of Pop, expressed outrage over how the film discredited Wade Robson and James Safechuck's belief that Jackson was a pedophile.' 'Jackson hasn't been seen caring for children with childhood cancer, dancing with a little girl in a wheelchair, or tucking up several little boys, mostly his nephews, at sleepovers,' Reed wrote for the newspaper. It seems that the movie's makers have been trapped in a room with John Branca and then told what to write.' 'It seems that the film's creators had been trapped in a room with John Branca and just told what to write,' he continued.'

Is Michael Jackson too much of a cash cow to be cancelled? Despite those blaming accusations of paedophilia, the King of Pop has a musical, a Cirque du Soleil exhibition, and now a biopic starring his nephew as his estate rakes in hundreds of millions

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 18, 2024
Sony's continuing corporate boasting about its scrupulous ethical principles, commitment to diversity, and inclusion does not specifically mention its child violence policy. So how does it square this with purchasing the musical catalogue of an alleged child abuser? It's likely that the generous support it provides to four children's charities speaks for itself. Money, it is said, speaks louder than words, and a few days ago, the media behemoth estimated that only half of Michael Jackson's musical catalog from the late performer's estate went out, though some believe it could be as much as £600 million.

On Friday, a California appeals court heard two men alleged that Michael Jackson sexually assaulted them for years as children. Wade Robson and James Safechuck's cases should not have been dismissed by a lower court, according to a three-judge jury from California's 2nd District Court of Appeal. The judges found that the men can legitimately argue that the two Jackson-owned companies named as defendants in the lawsuits had a responsibility to shield them.
