Vladislav "Vlado" Kristl (24 January 1923, Zagreb, Yugoslavia) was a filmmaker and narrator who best known for his animations and short films. Kristl first gained international recognition for his physically demanding and rigorous animations, particularly Don Kihot (freely inspired by Cervantes' Don Quixote).
The film is a "graphical and abstract masterpiece that defied all existing norms" and was given the main prize at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival.
Kristl regarded this film, not his first film, as the one where he "was finally given a free rein."
In Munich, Germany, he died in 2004 at the age of 81.
