Early life

Regan was born in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom, on May 16, 1965, the son of Irish immigrants. As a youth, he and his parents moved to Ireland, but after going to England, he attended St Joseph's College in Ipswich, Suffolk, before attending the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London.

Acting career

In series 5 (1992) of LWT's Burning, playing Don, Regan first appeared on UK television screens (Samantha Beckinsale). [A Touch of Frost] Regan played PC Shelby alongside Sir David Jason's DI Jack Frost in the (TV series) A Touch of Frost] Regan has over 15 stage appearances, most recently as Achilles in Troilus and Cressida at the Edinburgh International Festival. The festival celebrated director Peter Stein's largely cast and visually striking performance in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He is best known for his Ancient Greek-based films 300, in which he appeared as Captain Troy, Achilles' second in command, and Clash of the Titans, in which he played King Cepheus.

In 1999, Regan received an Irish Best Actor award for his co-starring role in the award-winning miniseries Eureka Street.

Simon Adams, father of Danny Trevannion's (Stephen Tompkinson) stepchildren Olivia and Evan, appeared in two episodes of Wild at Heart in 2006–07.

Regan, along with Judi Dench and other professional actors, revealed in 2012 that they intend to establish a theatre company in Beverley, Yorkshire. He appeared in films including Outside Bet, Lockout, and Snow White and the Huntsman last year.

Regan is both a screenwriter and director, and he's been working on new projects for his own film company. Come Like Shadows, Sean Bean and Tilda Swinton's script, is an accessible yet classic interpretation of Macbeth headlining Sean Bean and Tilda Swinton, and John Maybury will direct it. In the British series The Street, he appeared briefly as a sexually confused person.
