Vicky Lee McClure (born 8 May 1983) is an English actor.

This Is England '85 (2011) and its Channel 4 spin-off miniseries This Is England '86 (2010). She is best known for her appearances as Detective Kate Fleming and Lol Jenkins in Shane Meadows' film Line of Duty (2012-present) and its Channel 4 spin-off mini-series This Is England.

She appeared in another of Meadows' films, A Room for Romeo Brass (1999), where she appeared in Ladine's Ladine.

In 2011, she received the RTS Award and the BAFTA Television Award for Best Actress for her role as Lol in This is England '86. McClure is also known for her appearance in ITV's Broadchurch as Karen White, as well as other roles including in Filth and Wisdom (2008), Svengali (2013), and The Replacement (2017).

Early life

Vicky Lee McClure was born on May 8th, 1983, in Nottingham's Wollaton neighborhood. Her father was a joiner and her mother was a hairdresser, and she was a hairdresser. Jenny is her elder sister. McClure was educated at Fernwood School. She began dancing lessons at three years old and auditioned for the Central Junior Television Workshop when she was 11 years old. She was recalled a week later after another child dropped out after being unsuccessful on her first attempt. Samantha Morton, a Nottingham-born actress, taught and mentored her there. McClure successfully auditioned for admission to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts at the age of 16, but her family was unable to afford the tuition fees, and she stayed at the Institute.

Personal life

McClure is married to Welsh director Jonny Owen and lives in Nottingham. They announced their engagement on December 28, 2017.

She founded the Hogarth Teenage Cancer Trust at Nottingham City Hospital in 2013 and has been an avid booster of the Teenage Cancer Trust ever since.

McClure is close friends with Line of Duty actress Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar, and writer Jed Mercurio. She has also stayed close to her role in This is England, with many attending Thomas Turgoose's wedding in 2019. She is also a friend of Perry Fitzpatrick, having worked with him on several projects over the past 20 years.

She was asked to audition for a role in Shane Meadows' independent film A Room for Romeo Brass at 15. She was called back to audition and played Ladine Brass, the youngest to audition. She hired an agent but she didn't get any parts for four years. She left school to work in retail, first for H. Samuel and then Dorothy Perkins. She had to give up acting for a year before, but then took a part-time office job in Nottingham to allow her to audition for parts, mainly in London.

McClure continued to work on the This is England film and mini-series from 2006 to 2015, portraying Lorraine "Lol" Jenkins from an 18-month stint in soaps and daytime television. In a Time Out interview with Meadows in April 2007, McClure discussed the role when she was in a pub with Andrew Shim. The film's making, which was greatly improved, was described as "constant laughing and joking." Lorraine "Lol" Jenkins' appearance in This is England'86 earned her the British Academy Television Society Award for Best Actress and Best Actress in 2011.

McClure co-starred in Filth and Wisdom, Madonna's first feature film. After her first meeting Madonna, she confessed to being slightly stunned, "I tried to be as cool as possible," she said, "I tried to act as cool as possible," she exclaimed, "but inside, there's Madonna." You can't help it." On February 13, 2008, the film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.

McClure was invited and auditioned for a role in ITV soap Emmerdale, but he turned it down. DC Kate Fleming, a British police procedural television series, joined Line of Duty in 2012, appearing in Series 2 (2014), Series 4 (2016), Series 5 (2019) and Series 6 (2021). McClure appeared in the British action-thriller film Hummingbird opposite Jason Statham in 2013.

In July 2016, McClure appeared in The Secret Agent, based on Joseph Conrad's book The Secret Agent's name.

In 2017, McClure appeared in The Replacement, a BBC TV drama. In February 2017, McClure made her professional debut at Nottingham Playhouse in the fortieth anniversary of Stephen Lowe's Touched production. In August 2017, McClure did voiceover work on the More4 show A Year on the Farm.

McClure appeared as Nicola in the channel 4 drama I Am... with co-star and friend Perry Fitzpatrick. She has been lauded for her portrayal of a woman trapped in an emotional traumatic relationship. In addition, McClure was cast in Alex Rider's TV adaptation, a collection of young adult books by Anthony Horowitz. As of 2020, she will appear as Mrs. Jones, the deputy head of Mi6 in the show. McClure made a brief appearance in the popular internet comedy series on YouTube, Charity Shop Sue, based in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, in December 2019.

In Plan B's music video "She Said," McClure was also included alongside Kaya Scodelario, Abbey Butler, Andy Crane, and Paul Young. In 2010, McClure appeared in a number of promotional short films for the English cosmetics brand Illamasqua. McClure appeared in the video for Jake Bugg's "Two Fingers" along with Line of Duty co-star Craig Parkinson in 2012. McClure appeared on BBC Radio 1's Innuendo Bingo on March 18, 2014.
