As The Crown comes to an end, writer Peter Morgan has been looking back at the origins of the mega-hit drama, following the final unveiling of its sixth series on Netflix this week. Even though she auditioned multiple times, he has already discussed almost overlooking Claire Foy, the young queen. Vanessa Kirby has also lost out on the role of Princess Margaret, as he says.

I've spent a lot of time with the Royal Family over the past decade. I've spent time with a few queens, enjoyed the odd Sunday lunch with a couple of Princess Margarets, and even had dinner with two Princess Dianas. My ties to royalty are largely due to my good friend, Peter Morgan, who is best known as the creator and writer of the television series The Crown.
