Trish Doan Life

Kittie (also known as KiTTiE) is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in London, Ontario, in 1996.

They have released six studio albums, one video album, four extended plays, thirteen singles, and thirteen music videos.

Since the name "contradiction" was used in gym class by Fallon Bowman and Mercedes Lander, the band chose "Kittie" as their band name.

Morgan Lander, lead vocalist and one of Kittie's guitarists, and Tanya Candler completed the band's lineup on bass.

Kittie's debut album Spit, which was named gold by the RIAA and sold more than 600,000 copies in the United States after signing to NG Records, was released on NG Records.

Oracle was released in 2001 and 2004 and then 'til's death in 2004.

Kittie left Artemis Records and launched their own label in 2005.

In 2007, the band appeared in Funeral for Yesterday and then signed to E1 Music in 2009.

In 2009, the band appeared in the Black and in 2011 I've Failed You.

Kittie produced a film on the 20th anniversary of the band's existence in 2014. Kittie has been categorized under a number of genres of rock music, particularly heavy metal, such as death metal, nu metal, and alternative metal.

Kittie, a nu metal band, redesigned their style later, incorporating elements of genres such as black metal and death metal.

Formation and early years (1996–2004)

Kittie was founded in 1996, when drummer Mercedes Lander and guitarist Fallon Bowman met in gym class. After weeks of Fallon and Mercedes jamming, Morgan Lander, sister to Mercedes, became the lead singer and guitarist. Tanya Candler finished the line by appearing as the bassist. In 1998, Kittie released their first demos and began performing live shows. In 1999, the band appeared at Call the Office and the Embassy, as well as signing up for Canadian Music Week. Kittie met Jason Wyner, who was second-in-command at NG Records. NG Records signed Kittie in the summer of 1999 after Jason saw the band perform live. NG Records was bought by Artemis Records and producer Garth Richardson, who bought Kittie's demo. Kittie's debut album, Spit on Artemis Records, and the band Slipknot performed in London. Although Kittie's album Spit was finished in August 1999, it wasn't announced in January 2000 due to Tanya Candler's departure. The album is the band's most commercial, having been rated gold by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIAA). Spit has sold at least 600,000 copies in the United States and at least 40,000 copies in Canada, and at least 40,000 copies in Canada.

In the magazine's 2000 Readers' Choice Awards, Kittie's debut album and supporting tour earned them coverage in Metal Edge, where their followers voted Morgan Lander for "Female Performer of the Year" and Spit for "Home Video of the Year" and Spit for "Home Video of the Year" and Spit for "Home Video of the Year." This year, the band was also named "New Band of the Year," "Who's Going to be the Next Big Thing," and "Most Underrated Band," along with their total of five Metal Edge Readers' Choice Awards. Kittie produced Spit in Your Eye, a home-video that featured interviews of the band and the band's playing appearances with the band Slipknot on July 11, 2000.

Fallon Bowman left Kittie in August 2001. Bowman explained why she left the band: "I was dissatisfied with certain aspects of the band, so I thought it was time for me to leave." It was for the best," I think. Kittie's second album Oracle was released on October 30, 2001. The album features elements of death metal and thrash metal, and it's more aggressive than "Spit." Morgan Lander said that the band members were just 14 years old when they released their debut album, and that they had "n't written in 4 or 5 years." "We listened to bands like Nirvana, Silverchair, and Alice in Chains," she said, despite a change in influence from their youth. Now we're hearing about Cannibal Corpse and Nile. However, the band will continue to write in the same way by first writing the song and then using it "as the backdrop for the vocals." Oracle was the sole guitarist on the album, with Morgan Lander as the sole guitarist. Jeff Phillips, who worked as Kittie's guitar technician, filled Fallon's role as guitarist. Talena Atfield left the band in 2002 and Jennifer Arroyo took over on bass. In 2004, guitarist Lisa Marx joined the company and Jeff Phillips took on Full Time on his side project, Thine Eyes Bleed. Kittie's third studio album Until the End was released on July 27, 2004, Until the End.

Kittie were signed to Artemis Records before March 2005, but the company was forced to restructure the recording budget for the forthcoming fourth Kittie album." Long-awaited issues between the company and the record label had existed for a long time. Artemis and Kittie came to a stop in court in March 2004 for unpaid royalties and eleven Artemis breaches of contract.

Morgan Lander announced on March 23, 2005 that both Lisa Marx and Jennifer Arroyo had left the band. Jennifer Arroyo's break was amicable, but Lisa Marx's was unexpected. As with Talena Atfield's departure from the band, unjustified rumors of financial motives were cited; in the case of Jennifer Arroyo, the desire to work outside of Kittie full time was a contributing factor. Jennifer Arroyo will continue to work with Billy Graziadei of Biohazard to create Suicide City.

Kittie welcomed two new players in 2005: Tara McLeod on guitar and Trish Doan on bass. Poisoned Black clothing, a Morgan and Mercedes Lander's clothing collection, was launched in 2005. Morgan and Mercedes appeared in the documentary Metal Aheadbanger's Journey and Heavy Metal - Louder than Life. Kittie's Never Again EP was released by Rock Ridge Music on February 7, 2006. Morgan Lander, a vocalist, appeared on the album "It Turns to Rust," by the Canadian death metal band Kataklysm, also in 2006.

Kittie formed their own record label, Kiss of Infamy Records, and released their fourth studio album from it. After a cease-and-desist letter from lawyers representing Kiss Catalog Ltd. (the owner of the musical company Kiss) claiming that the Kiss of Infamy trademark was "confusingly similar" to their client's trademark, the label was changed to "X of Infamy." Funeral for Yesterday, Kittie's fourth studio album, was released on February 20, 2007, through their record label. Morgan Lander, a funeral director, announced that Kittie would debut a 45-minute DVD with the CD. Kittie toured in February 2007 as part of the Yesterday Tour, alongside Walls of Jericho, 36 Crazyfists, Dead To Fall, and In This Moment.

Trish Doan's departure was due to the eating disorder anorexia, which she experienced during the recording of Funeral for Yesterday. Doan had battled the illness for almost two years. Ivy Vujic became the new bass player a few years after. David Lander, the father of band members Morgan and Mercedes and the band's manager, died of a heart attack on August 2, 2008.

Kittie signed to the E1 Music record label on June 26, 2009. In the Black, the band's fifth studio album, In the Black, was released on September 15, 2009. Both singles, "Cut Throat" and "Sorrow I Know" were shot and footage was shot for two singles, "Sorrow I Know." "Cut Throat" premiered on MTV 2's Headbangers Ball on September 5, 2009, and on the Canadian show Much Loud on September 20, 2009. "Cut Throat" appeared on the Saw VI Soundtrack on October 20, 2009, as well as in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, which was released on March 25, 2011. In the dark, Germany label Massacre Records would sell In the Black in Europe on September 16, 2009.

Kittie returned to Europe in January 2010 to promote In the Black. It Dies Today and Malefice were two of the tour's supporting bands. This tour included dates in Scotland, England, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. Morgan Lander revealed in a January 27, 2010 interview that the band was in talks to film a video for the track "Die My Darling." Kittie began a new North American tour in March 2010 with God Forbid, Periphery, and Gwen Stacy as support. Kittie performed well in the Happy Daze tour, hosted by Insane Clown Posse and starring Coolio, Kottonmouth Kings, and Necro from May to June 2010.

Kittie took part in the 2010 Thrash and Burn tour, which also included Asking Alexandria, Born of Osiris, Everlasting Grin, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Impending Doom, Periphery, and Greeley Estates. This was followed by a one-month appearance as one of Devildriver's 2010 North American tour's opening acts.

On August 30, 2011, Kittie's sixth studio album, titled I've Failed You, was released. Two videos for "We Are the Lamb" and "Empires" were released. Mercedes Lander formed the Alcoholicallys, a female band formed in 2011 featuring former Kittie bassist Tanya Candler.

Kittie revealed on February 13, 2012, that Ivy Vujic had resigned from the band and that Trish Doan would be back.

Kittie revealed information about a mystery project that was underway on their Facebook page in early 2014. Kittie shared photos of recent and present members of the same room with a camera on March 8. Kittie unveiled an Indiegogo campaign on March 28, 2014 to commemorate the band's impending 20th anniversary, as well as a tell all book. In eight hours, the company's target of $20,000 was met. The campaign came to an end on April 28, 2014, raising $40,525 — 203% of the initial target. Kittie hired Rob McCallum to direct the film, and Mark Eglinton to assist with the writing of the biography.

Mercedes Lander, a drummer/vocalist, had formed the White Swan, a new sludge/doom metal band who had released the single "Illuminate." Anubis, the debut EP, was released on November 1, 2016.

Trish Doan, a bassist, died at the age of 31 on February 11, 2017. Doan had moved to Australia in 2013 and had often used her social media pages to express her dissatisfaction with depression.

The band announced on August 30, 2017 that they would perform a three-set single concert in London, Ontario, featuring three new and veteran performers. Candler, Bowman, Phillips, Arroyo, and Vujic were among the performers on the 20th anniversary of their appearance, and the event featured them on stage from their respective decades. On March 26, 2019, the concert was released on DVD format.

The documentary Kittie: Origins/Evolutions, which was shot prior to the reunion concert, was released on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on March 30, 2018. Both Atfield and Marx declined to participate in the reunion concert, but Morgan Lander said, "they didn't think it was the right idea for her" to appear, but that she did not believe it was the right decision for her" to perform. A CD containing a collection of live performances by the band was sent with the film.

Morgan Lander expressed insecurity about the band's future, chiefly because she didn't feel comfortable leading the band forward without Trish Doan. Lander had joined Karkaos, a melodic death metal band, several months after.

Mercedes Lander said in October 2020 that it was unlikely that Kittie would return to perform again without a significant budget or the ability to include all of the band's former members. She also mentioned that without Doan, she and her sister found it impossible to continue with the band.

Given the Lander sisters' recent skepticism, it was announced in January 2022 that Kittie would reunite to appear on all three days of the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 22, 23, 29, and 29. The band were welcomed to the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Alton, Virginia, on September 8, 2022, following the announcement of the October performances. Morgan Lander has said that although nothing is concrete, she believes the band will continue to tour in 2023.
