As Helen Flanagan guesses that the White Cliffs of Dover are made of CHEESE, she is clearly a fan of Wallace and Gromit.'

After Helen Flanagan's funny and inaccurate answer to a simple question, the Weakest Link followers were left in hysterics. On Saturday night, the former Coronation Street actor, JB Gill, Adam Pearson, Toyah Willcox, Davood Ghadami, and Ivo Graham appeared on the celebrity quiz show. Sadly, the nerves seemed to be getting to Helen, and she didn't get off to a good start with many incorrect answers.

The Queen made a bad decision.' It's been rejected by the monarchy...We remember it's A ROYAL KNOCKOUT, a performance so ridiculous that it changed monarchy's view forever.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 24, 2023
Even today, it's one of the most bizarre bits of royal television ever to be broadcast. It's a Royal Knockout featured senior member of the Royal Family wearing fancy dress and playing silly games with celebrities, a spin on the BBC's long-running Saturday night game show. The royal version, clearly deviated by Prince Edward, set a new bar for Lese Majeste, and according to some commentators, changed monarchy's perceptions forever. We recall the leading commentators from MailOnline's discerning verdicts here as Channel 5 airs a new behind-the-scenes documentary.

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS discusses last night's television show, in a heartwarming tale of maternal instinct

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 28, 2023
Imagine the commotion on social media if a week-old baby was discovered abandoned in the back of an open-top sports vehicle on a London street today. Celebrities will line up to tell us how they came down the road the other day or if they once owned a car like it. Dozens of the more ostensibly virtuous would be ready to adopt right away. A laptop sleuth will discuss conspiracy theories about which cabinet minister murdered an unwanted baby and accuse police of withholding the baby's DNA information. All of this will contribute to a national obsession. However, Ruth Hale was discovered alone and weeping in a 1972 Aston Martin on a Marylebone street, so the tale barely made it into the evening newspapers. Harvey Shackell (left) was left in a cardboard box covered with brown paper on a Vera Wood's (right) doorstep in Hayes, Middlesex, on Christmas Day 1960.

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS on last night's TV: warm memories of cold soup, candlelight and power cuts

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 31, 2023
CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: The Blitz spirit, as we discovered during the pandemic, is more myth than memory now. As Covid struck, a world that had defied the Luftwaffe's bombs remained indoors, baked sourdough. . . And now, is itching to be out. In lieu, we've now become a world that harks back to the 1970s' power cut and miners' strike. If you think this is bad,' we suggest, you should have been around 50 years ago, with cold soup for supper, and homework by candlelight.' It's no wonder that we've become so defeated. I'm not sure what it'll be like in another half of a century, when Generation Z is collecting their pensions and getting nostalgic about the 2020 lockdown, but I don't like to worry. A number of celebrities and former politicians were musing on the 'Blackouts Of '74: When Britain Went Dark (Ch5).

The bumpy spoon that tricks you into eating less sugar - and chopsticks that make food taste saltier

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 27, 2023
Could bumpy cutlery trick our taste buds and help us to eat more healthily? Researchers in the United States have produced a spoon that they claim can make food taste sweeter without adding sugar. In theory, this would mean we no longer have to look for sugary alternatives (including sweeteners), which may now be attributed to shifts in our gut microbiome (the colony of microbes increasingly linked to immunity) - for example. To increase the surface area that has physical contact with the taste buds on our tongue, the spoon, which is in the early design process, might have bumps on the underside.

Historian DOMINIC SANDBROOK looks back at an embarrassing Royal TV moment

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 15, 2022
DOMINIC SANDBROOK: The Grand Knockout Tournament, also known as It's A Royal Knockout, was the brainchild of Elizabeth's youngest son Edward, who had walked out of the Royal Marines and fancy himself as a dramatic impresario. In a series of bizarre games, it pitted four teams of celebrities, including John Travolta, George Lazenby, Toyah Willcox, Gary Lineker, and Barbara Windsor, against each other at Alton Towers in June 1987. Prince Edward, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and his new wife, the brash Sarah Ferguson, were among the team's captains (bottom right). It was, of course, a disaster. Never in living memory has the monarchy threatened to make itself look silly, and when Edward stormed off in a huff at the end, unable to announce his excitement for the occasion, it only contributed to the sense of chaos and shame. Elizabeth herself must have been terrified. Could her own father, George VI, ever have imagined that one day the nation would be watching his grandchildren cheering on Travolta chasing Cliff Richard, who was dressed as a leek?
