In the early 1960s, a chance meeting with Dr. Lester Perries attracted him to the cinema, where he stayed for the next 40 years. Following the screenplay he wrote for Welikatara, Tissa was welcomed to scriptwriting and acknowledged as Sri Lanka's top screenplay, dialogue, and script writer, he earned co-credit for the bulk of Perries' films.
