Timea Bacsinszky (born 8 June 1989) is a Swiss professional tennis player who has won four singles and five doubles titles on the WTA Tour.

Bacsinszky, a former top-10 player, has reached a career-best singles ranking of world No. 1. On May 16, 2016, there were 9 on the 16th of May.

She had a breakthrough in singles in 2015, winning a career-best 15 consecutive matches spanning two divisions, then progressing to the French Open semifinals, the first time she had advanced to the third round of a Major.

She also reached her first Premier Mandatory final at the China Open in 2007 and became the first Swiss female tennis player to be ranked in the top ten since Martina Hingis in 2007.

In 2017, she reached the semifinals of the French Open for the first time.

Personal life

Bacsinszky, who first picked up a racket at the age of 5, was pushed to excel in youth tennis by her father, Igor, a tennis coach from Satu Mare County, Transylvania, who escaped Ceaușescu's Romania to Switzerland in 1982. She has said she disliked him for this and is now estranged from him after her parents divorced, though she still has a passion for competitive tennis. Suzanne (Zsuzsanna in Hungary) is a dentist from Debrecen, Hungary. Since both her parents are Hungarians, she had wondered about representing Hungary on the international stage. She has one brother, Daniel, a music instructor and staff of The Evpatoria Report, as well as two sisters, Sophie (musician and student) and Melinda. Bacsinszky adored Monica Seles while growing up. Bacsinszky's early tennis career included appearances in the semifinals of three junior Grand Slam tournaments from 2004 to 2005. She qualified then defeated Anastasia Myskina and Francesca Schiavone before losing to former No. 66, a bid to break into professional tournaments. Maria Sharapova, 1, Maria Sharapova. Bacsinszky qualified for Elite Trophy in Zhuhai due to her good first half of the season. She lost in straight sets to Zhang Shuai in one of the two round-robin matches, but she won the match against Tme Babos, bringing the season's close to an end.
