After several encounters with locals and deadly attacks on two dogs, wildlife officials will capture and evaluate their health of a renowned mountain lion, P-22, or the 'Hollywood Cat.' The lion, which is being monitored by the National Park Service, has gained notoriety for navigating the San Diego 405 and the Hollywood 101 freeways to reach the Griffith Park area. On Sunday, P-22 was featured on 60 Minutes and also received a 6,000-word New Yorker profile, but of late, the lion has been blamed for the murder of a leashed dog in the Hollywood Hills and allegedly assaulting another in Silver Lake. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the National Park Service revealed on Thursday that they intend to capture P-22 to assess his health and 'determine the right next steps for the animal while also focusing on the safety of surrounding communities.'
