Tom Chaplin Life

Thomas Oliver Chaplin (born 8 March 1979) is an English singer-songwriter, singer, and composer best known for his work with the British pop rock band Keane.

Early life

Thomas Oliver Chaplin was born in Hastings, East Sussex, to Sally and David Chaplin OBE, a month before his future bandmate Tim Rice-Oxley was named Tom. Their mothers became neighbors, and he began a relationship with the two brothers that continues today.

Chaplin's father was the headmaster of Vinehall School in Robertsbridge, so the two children, as well as Richard Hughes, who would later be their bandmate, were educated there. Chaplin attended Tonbridge School with Rice-Oxley and Hughes. Dominic Scott (who was a founding member of Keane but left in 2001) met while studying there. Chaplin appeared in several school productions and was a member of the school's choral group during his time at Vinehall. When he was in elementary school, he played the flute. Before heading out to pursue a career in music, Chaplin attended the University of Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, The Lotus Eaters, a trio of Scott, Rice-Oxley, and Hughes formed their first band in 1995. At Sussex pubs, it was a cover band for U2, Oasis, and The Beatles. Chaplin was invited by Tim Rice-Oxley to play as an acoustic guitar player. The band's name was changed to Keane and Chaplin in 1997, a short time after.

Personal life

In June 2011, Chaplin married Natalie Dive, his girlfriend. He has a daughter who was born on March 20th, 2014, and a son who was born in 2020. The family lives in Wittersham, Kent.

Chaplin is a keen golfer, promoter of Ipswich Town, and England cricket team member. He identifies himself as an agnostic.

Chaplin announced on August 22, 2006 that he was receiving medication for heroin use. After leaving their hotel in Japan with no warning, he and his bandmates cancelled their North American tour for his recovery, opting to fly back to Britain alone. He left the Priory Clinic in London on October 6th but continued to receive medical attention after leaving.

In an interview with music critic Neil McCormick, Chaplin recalled that he began using drugs again before his solo album's debut in August, and that he was worried about the album's release caused him to get "back to shoveling coke up (his) nose." In 2015, Chaplin said he barely died one night. People started to give up on him, and his wife once told him she loved him if she never saw him again. Chaplin was revived after seeing a psychoanalyst. He also said that the previous 12 months had been the best of his life with his wife and daughter.

Tom Chaplin Career

Solo career

Chaplin revealed in January 2016 that he intended to make a solo record during Keane's hiatus, but the project was cut down to an album's worth. In late June, he announced that the album was complete and that it would be out soon.

On August 10, 2016, the Wave album name was revealed on Twitter and Facebook. Hardened Heart was released with a music video the same day. "Quicksand" was the album's first single on August 26, 2016. Chaplin announced on September 6, 2016 that he would appear in eight intimate solo shows around the United Kingdom in October 2016. These were his first solo gigs in four years. Island Records announced the Wave on October 14, 2016. "Quicksand," "Still Waiting," "Solid Gold" (of which the single release is a joint venture with JONES rather than the solo version on the album) and "See It So Clear" were among the album's four singles. The unveiling of The Wave was followed by the unveiling of the Carried by the Wave Tour, a longer series of dates running between January and September 2017. The tour was made up of four legs: first in the United States and Canada, then around Europe, a third leg in the UK, and a final leg in Latin America.

Chaplin announced on October 13, 2017 that he had released Twelve Tales of Christmas, his first solo Christmas album, on November 17th. "Under a Million Lights," the album's first single, was slewantly announced. The album features eight original tracks as well as four cover versions: "Walking in the Air," written by Howard Blake), "2000 Miles" (originally by The Pretenders), "River" (originally by Joni Mitchell), and "Stay Another Day" (originally by East 17). On the tenth of December 10, it was also revealed that Chaplin would appear three times to accompany the album's launch; at the Palace Theatre in Manchester on 10 December and at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 12 December.

Chaplin appeared on the third series of The Masked Singer in January 2022 as "Poodle" in the third series. He was the fifth person to be unveiled. In an interview, he said he was working on his third solo album, which will be released later this year.

In July 2022, he revealed that his third album, Midpoint, would be published on September 2nd 2022.

ADRIAN THRILLS: No wonder he's so Keane on middle age

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2022
ADRIAN THRILLS: Keane's debut album, Hopes And Fears, in 2004, was one of the few bands to sing of youth as well as Keane. The Sussex company framed their salad days on a track like Somewhere We Know and Everybody's Changing, launching a career that saw their first five LPs top the UK charts. Capturing the mood swings of a swollen yet unbowed forty-something is less glamorous, but it's what Tom Chaplin is trying to do on his new solo album, Midpoint. The singer, 43, came to a close when Keane's Cause And Effect tour was cancelled due to the pandemic, and he began writing songs summing up his middle-age thoughts.
