Thomas Brezina Life

Thomas C. Brezina (born in Vienna on January 30th, 1963) is an Austrian writer of children's books and TV-Presenter.

He is best known for his film The Knickerbocker Gang, A Case for You and the Tiger-Team, and his tales about Tom Turbo's talking bike.

Over 550 books have been published, and his work has been translated into 35 languages.

Life

Brezina was born in Vienna. Brezina began writing and received the "Grand Austrian Youth Award" for his screenplays for the television-based show "Tim, Tom and Dominik" during his childhood. He served as a puppeteer at Arminio Rothstein, Austria's Clown Habakkuk, and played the magician Tintifax among others.

Brezina wrote bedtime stories and radio plays before starting as an assistant director for shows including Am Dam Des, a children's service by Austrian national public service broadcaster sterreichischer Rundfunk (ORF). Brezina joined ORF as editor, director, and eventually presenter for children's and youth services.

With the series The Knickerbocker Gang, he made his debut as a writer in 1990. Tom Turbo, a detective-series about the "world's smartest bike," was released on television three years later, and was later made available on television as an interactive children's show. Brezina is responsible for the children's program okidoki, which is broadcast on ORF eins.

Brezina has been recognized for his contributions, including the coveted Austrian TV award for the educational program Forscherexpress ("Researcher's Express) and the most coveted Austrian television award Romy for his services to the Republic of Austria.

Brezina lives in Vienna and London. He works in charities for homeless people and became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Austria in 1996. He received a children's grant for Light for the World on his 50th birthday, and he is now serving as a ambassador for Austrian NGO Volkshilfe.

He came out as gay and married Ivo Belajic, a Croatian painter, since 2017.
