DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Labour need to take action on the NHS and not just more talk

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 21, 2024
In opposition, Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the NHS was 'broken' and must be fixed without delay. Since coming into government, his sense of urgency seems to have diminished. He now says he wants to have a 'national conversation' before embarking on a programme of reform - which even then will take ten years to complete. With waiting lists still stratospherically high, face-to-face GP appointments as rare as unicorns in many areas and hospital A&E departments almost cracking under the strain of high demand, patients and medical staff want action today, not years from now. Do we really need another conversation? The problems are plain to see. NHS productivity and efficiency must be improved, everyone should be able to access primary care, waiting times must be brought down.

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 12, 2024
Thierry Henry believes the expanded Champions League format is overburdening players, as the ex-Arsenal star slammed the new model on Wednesday for having 'too many games' on Wednesday. Under the newly-introduced 'Swiss' system, each team will play a minimum of eight league phase games - up from six in the previous group stage - while 16 teams will also participate in a two-legged playoff to reach the round of 16 (and join eight automatic qualifiers). And while Henry, now a pundit with CBS in the United States, believes the expanded slate of games is a positive in terms of his TV career, his perspective as an ex-player and coach is very different.

Former Arsenal man Carl Jenkinson has revealed that Mikel Arteta has an 'aura' just like Gunners legend Thierry Henry and that 'when he walks in the room and talks, you listen'. The Spaniard has transformed the north London side from under-achievers to regular title contenders over the course of his reign. Last season they ran Pep Guardiola 's Man City all the way to a tense title finale, narrowly missing out on a first Premier League trophy in 20 years by just two points. The Emirates side went into this campaign as favourites alongside their Manchester rivals and have made a solid start with two wins and a draw from the opening three matches.

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 31, 2024
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY AADAM PATEL: Clarence Seedorf insists that football has a problem when it comes to equal opportunities for black managers and has called for more action to be taken. 'Unfortunately, there is a gap of opportunity for black coaches. It's still an issue,' Seedorf told Mail Sport. 'I've not been working (as a coach since 2019) but I have not had many more offers. How is that for someone with my career? I'm not saying that a good playing career brings good clubs necessarily, but the lack of opportunity is an issue. It's not just me. Look at the likes of Thierry Henry (top left inset), Sol Campbell (centre top inset), Edgar Davids, Patrick Kluivert (bottom left inset) and so on.' The Dutchman is the only player to have won the Champions League with three different clubs and took the AC Milan job in 2014 after retiring but was sacked after four months by his former club. He hasn't had a coaching role since 2019 when he managed Cameroon.

The Arsenal legend was appointed into the role last August after stints coaching Belgium and managing Monaco and Montreal Impact. He managed to lead the side to an impressive silver medal, narrowly missing out on gold to Spain who beat them 5-3 after extra-time thanks to two late goals from Sergio Camello. And now Henry has quit the job after less than a year and revealed that 'reasons of his own' were behind the decision.
