Terrell Edmunds Career

College career

Edmunds, a senior defensive linebacker at Virginia Tech from 2005 to 2017, was a vital defensive role. He decided against his senior year and into the 2018 NFL Draft following his junior season in 2017. He had 196 tackles, six interceptions, and 1.5 sacks during his career.

Professional career

Edmunds reported on January 6, 2018, that he did not qualify and enter the 2018 NFL Draft. Edmunds and his brother Tremaine made joint statements on Twitter about their draft's declaration. He attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, but was unable to complete any of the combine and positional drills due to a pre-existing shoulder injury and persistent cramps.

Edmunds participated in Virginia Tech's pro day on March 14, 2018, but opted to remain on his combined numbers and only did positional drills. Edmunds was expected to be a third round pick by the majority of NFL draft experts and scouts at the end of the pre-draft process. DraftScout.com also ranked him as the third best strong safety in the draft and sixth best safety by NFL analyst Mike Mayock.

Edmund Edmunds was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round (28th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Edmunds was the third safety drafter to be drafted in 2018.

Edmund Edmunds was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a four-year, $10.80 million deal, which also included a signing bonus of $6 million. Edmunds trained to be a starting block against veterans Morgan Burnett and Sean Davis. Edmunds, the back-up strong safety behind Morgan Burnett, was named by head coach Mike Tomlin to start the regular season.

He made his professional debut and first appearance in the Pittsburgh Steelers' season-opener, 21-21. Edmunds made a temporary ineffective start to Morgan Burnett in the season's opener and was the consistent starting point in Week 3 after Burnett was out for four games (Weeks 3-6) due to a groin injury. Edmunds made his first interception during a 30–27 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. Edmunds intercepted a pass by Buccaneers' quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick that was supposed for wide receiver Mike Evans and returned it for a 35-yard gain in the second quarter. Edmunds had a season-high nine solo against the Denver Broncos in Week 12. As the Steelers lost 33-30 against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 2, 2018, he had eight combined tackles, deflected a pass, and made his first appearance as the Steelers lost 33-31 to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13. He finished his rookie season in 2018 with 78 total tackles (55 solo), four pass deflections, one dismissal, one fired, and one intercept in 16 games and 15 starts. Pro Football Focus rated him 63.7 out of 66th out of all safeties in 2018.

Edmunds led the Steelers to a 26-28 loss in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. Edmunds appeared in all 16 games in his second season, including two for loss and three pass defenses.

Edmunds was the first fired of the season on Jeff Driskel during the 26-21 victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 2. Edmunds had his first two interceptions of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11 on Week 11.

On May 3, 2021, the Steelers declined to use Edmunds' fifth-year option, effectively ending his career as a free agent after the 2021 season.

Edmunds signed a one-year contract with the Steelers on April 25, 2022.

With the city of Philadelphia tied to their Phillies' NLCS play, two stars from another sport were invited to play in their first baseball game ever - and were completely banned from the entire experience. For the Philadelphia Eagles' second game of the National League Championship Series, running back D'Andre Swift and safety Terrell Edmunds were right behind home plate. The two acknowledged that this was their first baseball game they'd ever attended, with Edmunds remarking "This joint [Citizens Bank Park] is insane."
