The California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) released 14 reparations bills on Wednesday aimed at combating systemic bigotry throughout the state, marking the first in the country to take such a step. But critics pounced on the lack of cash payouts and the $1.2 million price for every black resident who had to prove they had been affected last year. Rather, the plans include a call for the state to apologise for its slavery service, the ban on compulsory servitude in jails, and the restoration of land confiscated from black families by governments.
