Towson University gave him a scholarship.
Goodman followed Israel and signed a three-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2002, then went to Elitzur Kiryat Shmuel in the 2003–04 season, and then returned to Giva't Shmuel in 2005-2006.
Early life
Goodman grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, with six brothers and two sisters in an Orthodox Jewish family. He began playing basketball at five years of age, but it was as a junior in high school that drew national attention, scoring 35.4 points per game for the Talmudical Academy of Baltimore. He was ranked as the country's best high school player in 11th grade, and he was dubbed the "Jewish Jordan." In 2000, Goodman graduated from Takoma Park, Maryland, USA.
College career
Goodman received a scholarship to the University of Maryland, which had one of the country's top-ranked basketball teams. Activities on Friday nights and Saturdays were included in the team's schedule (against Orthodox Judaism's rules). The coaching staff and Tamir of Maryland disagreed over his decision not to play on the Sabbath, so he turned down Maryland's offer.
Goodman then received a scholarship from nearby Towson University. Goodman was the first freshman to attend Towson in ten seasons. In his freshman year in 2000–2001, he averaged 6 points, 4 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game, as well as the coach's award for his work on the track and in the classroom. Goodman continued his work at Towson until December 2001, when Goodman reportedly assaulted him.
Professional career
Goodman fulfilled a childhood dream by moving to Israel and extending his 3-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv on July 22, 2002.
Goodman was loaned to Giv'at Shmuel for the 2002–03 season in order to get more playing time.
Goodman played for Elitzur Kiryat Ata in the 2003–04 season.
Goodman served in Israel's Defense Force, fulfilling a requirement for all Israeli civilians. He sustained a knee injury that necessitated major surgery. He beat the odds and returned to Giva't Shmuel to complete his contract for the 2005–06 season after nine months of intensive physical therapy.
Goodman went back to Liga Leumit to play for Maccabi Shoham as he recovers from his injury. He appeared in more than 20 minutes in his first two games and scored close to 20 points per game. In December 2006, Goodman's left knee came out again, and his doctors ordered him to undergo weeks of physical therapy. He did not get to play again until March 2007.
Goodman played for the Maryland Nighthawks of the newly formed Premier Basketball League in late 2007. He suffered a complicated finger dislocation in his first game, requiring surgery and a year of physical therapy.
Goodman joined Maccabi Haifa in July 2008. Goodman was unable to play the remainder of the season after shattering multiple bones in his left hand in practice.
