Career

Empson has appeared in a number of films as well as her television appearance. Leah Russell, the next-door neighbor of the main characters, appeared in the film Beautiful Thing in 1996. Empson performed alongside Linda Henry, both of whom would eventually appear in EastEnders; in 1998, she appeared as the love rival to the main character in the film Babymother. Billie was the original cast of Our House, a musical based on songs from the ska/pop band Madness, who performed in the original cast of Our House in October 2002 and ran until August 2003. Empson was a veteran theatre actor who appeared in The Cambridge Theatre. She has since been a mainstay of the Hackney Empire's annual pantomimes.

Empson appeared on BBC sitcom Beautiful People and in the ITV1 thriller Whitechapel in 2008. Kim Fox, the half-sister of Denise Fox, appeared in EastEnders in 2009, in which she appeared (Diane Parish). As a result, she has received numerous accolades, including an Inside Soap award in 2012 for "Funniest Female Achievement." She took maternity leave from EastEnders and returned to screens in August 2014. Empson would be temporarily starring the series on July 16, 2019, with her return to television in 2020 expected. Empson told Loose Women that the break was her maternity leave for her second child, and that she did not intend to conceal it, but that she "just enjoyed it."

Empson has appeared in Anansi and the Magic Mirror, as well as a live sketch and comedy show (The Kat and Tameka Show) with Choice FM DJ Kat B. In Tinga Tinga Tales, she has also voiced Tickbird. Empson was crowned as a contestant on the fourteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing on August 22, 2016. Gorka Márquez, a professional dancer, was partnered with her.
