Sujan Ratna Shakya (born 10 March 1988) is a Nepali who lives and works in South Korea as a television presenter.
He appeared on the talk show Non-Summit and reality-travel documentary Where Is My Friend's Home.
Career
On Episode 27 of the JTBC South Korean talk show Non-Summit, he interned as a guest representative from his home country Nepal on January 5th, 2015, a group of young men from various nations, who live in Seoul, who debate and discuss topics, in the Korean language, with perspectives from their native countries. He was instantly selected to be a permanent cast member for the forthcoming episode on January 12th, along with two more recent guest interns from Russia and Australia. He said he felt uncomfortable during his appearance on the show but that he would do his best and educate others about his country.
Shakya responds to questions about his country and faith, in one case, when show host Sung Si-kyung says that 90 percent of Nepal's residents are Hindu and revere the "cow" creature, with fellow talk show host Guillaume Patry from Canada remarking with a joking that he likes "beef." "Rather than becoming mad, people calmed their rage by doing yoga," he said in discussions about an "angry world." He spoke about the pace of life in Nepal as opposed to the city life in Seoul.
He joined Non-Summit's cast members for a visit to Belgium in March 2015.
He hosted the trip to Nepal in April 2015, the third country visited by Where Is My Friend's Home. "I hope people recall Nepal as a stunning land of mountains," he said, "I hope people remember Nepal as a wonderful world of mountains" and "I wanted to expose Nepal's traditional religion, where gods and humans live together." He said he was excited to see family and friends who hadn't seen in over a year and a half.
The Nepal earthquake occurred on the same day as the second episode of My Friend's Home's pre-recorded episodes aired on April 25, 2015. When he was interviewed, he said that his family was fine and that the family's house had not broken down. On his Twitter account, he posted a poem and the word "#prayforNepal."
