Professional career
Cink won the Mexican Open and three events on the Nike Tour (now the Korn Ferry Tour) in 1996 and won the Canon Greater Hartford Open in his rookie season. Cink has been on the Tour for the past few years, winning another award at the 2000 MCI Classic. Cink also competed in the 2001 U.S. Open, losing by a single stroke after shooting a bogey on the 72nd hole. In 2004, Cink finished fifth on the money list and gained honors at the MCI Heritage and the WGC-NEC Invitational, which is one of the World Golf Championships tournaments.
Cink was the runner-up in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Arizona, losing 8 & 7 in the 36-hole final to top-ranked Tiger Woods on February 24, 2008. With his victory at the Travelers Championship in suburban Hartford, he tied for his highest ever rank, sixth in the Official World Golf Rankings.
In a four-hole playoff, Cink captured his first major title at Turnberry, Scotland, defeating 59-year-old, five-time champion Tom Watson by six strokes on July 19, 2009. Watson bogeyed the 72nd hole, forcing the playoffs, but Cink had birdied the 72nd hole.
