At the 2023 Ceremony, Not One Person of Colour Won a BAFTA

www.popsugar.co.uk, February 19, 2023
If facing backlash over a lack of diversity at the 2020 BAFTAs, which was called out at the time by "Joker" lead Joaquin Phoenix during the ceremony, you might have guessed that the BAFTAs had gathered together. Sadly, this was not the case for this year's exhibition; incredibly, no one of colour received an award. Following outrage three years ago for mainly white candidates, BAFTA Chair Krishnendu Majumdar, who is stepping down this year, told Variety that the Academy will be embarking on "whole cultural transition." "We want to have a positive influence on the wider economy, but we need to make our own house in order," he said. With a pledge to new committee members and a time limit for studio campaigns, proactive steps were taken, but any concerns that these would not be carried out quickly or strenuously enough may have been unfounded. Although there was little criticism of the 2023 BAFTA nominees, inclusion did not make it to the winners list. The ceremony was dominated by wins from "All Quiet on the Western Front," "Elvis," and "The Banshees of Inisherne." Although these films were obviously worthy recipients, it was soon apparent that people of color were barred from the highest accolades. For example, Viola Davis was nominated for "The Woman King," Angela Bassett for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," and "Good Luck to You, Leo Grande." These are only a few of the talented names that were just as deserving of taking home a statue.

Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez posed together for a photo at the 2022 Academy Museum Gala on October 15, possibly dismissing any unconstitutional drama, while still displaying their designer looks on full display. Bieber, 25, and Gomez, 30, each exuded her own brand of luxury, with the styling assistance of Karla Welch and Kate Young. Although the supermodel and Rhode founder opted for a strapless, chocolate brown Saint Laurent gown with a sweetheart neckline and cut out at the stomach, the singer and Wondermind creator went for a slick Armani pantsuit. Bieber's appearance included ruching at the bust and waist, as well as a tassel of excess fabric that framed her torso. With an auburn gemstone choker from the jeweler and Irinel de León, the Tiffany & Co. ambassador emphasized the fallal tones. Makeup artist Mary Phillips lent her touch with a soft pink blush, and a heavily lined nude lip, while Zola Ganzorigt swatched an earthy brown polish to complement her wedding ring stack. Bieber played around with a pair of shield sunglasses to match her '90s vibe behind the scenes, even though she didn't wear them to the event.

At Anantara Chiang Rai hotel, which is located in the Golden Triangle Elephant Camp in North Thailand, Phineas Wilson says you'll definitely won't forget sleeping with elephants. 'We were joined by two massive beasts just ten yards away,' He says. As I sat down, feeling a little strange exposed to the elements in my striped pyjamas by the River Ruak's banks, with Myanmar (formerly Burma) a few yards across the water, my ears erupted.' On the deck of his tent, he enjoyed a candlelit dinner and watched the nearby elephants 'endlessly chomping grass and trunks swooshing the air as they tucked in'.
