IAN HERBERT: The Ashes were a spectacular spectacle, a glorious comparison of philosophies, from first ball to last... it has far exceeded everything I've ever seen in sports

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 1, 2023
IAN HERBERT: On Saturday, actor Stephen Mangan referred to a 'View from the Boundary' book to learn how his school geography teacher would have the cricket commentary on during lessons, and I suspect it fits into a strong association with the game. In the summer of 1981, our art teacher erroneously decided that an outdoor'sketching class' near the banks of the Shropshire Union Canal was required. He carried a radio for the Ashes Test, which would be remembered for the Miracle of Headingley. The sun was shining the day, as I recall, but perhaps that's just confirmation bias; a conviction that no one could ever compare Botham, Dilley, and those golden days of the early 1980s.

Sofa firm launched by Habitat founder Sir Terence Conran's grandson Felix sells for £1

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 14, 2023
RICHARD EDEN: Sir Terence Conran, the late Sir Terence Conran's grandfather, changed the country's shops and restaurants and created iconic furniture. So when Felix Conran (pictured) founded a company to produce what was described as 'perfect, life-lasting' sofas and chairs, it was welcomed with excitement and acclaim. But I fear that, five years later, the only thing that has lasted is a blizzard of customer reports, reporting that months, even years, after being handed over thousands of pounds as a cushion.

Cariad Lloyd wants to help others on their bereavement journey

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 5, 2023
CARIAD LLOYD: The five stages of grief. Can you name them all? Maybe you could have voiced out indignation and denial in a line-up, but the majority of the story would be a bit hazy (as you could always remember Robbie in Take That, but it was impossible to tell Howard and Jason apart). And yet, the five stages of grief theory is deeply embedded in our culture. Even if the nearest you have to death is the school rabbit dying on your watch, you'll be able to relate to the fact that after someone dies, you will have specific emotions: denial, rage, bargaining, sadness, and acceptance.

Today, jubile crowds lined the streets of London to spark the mass of runners, some of whom were dressed in vibrant costumes, as they began their 26.2-mile run from Blackheath to the finish line on The Mall. There was a moving interpretation of the national anthem performed before the mass gathering started this morning in honor of late Queen Elizabeth II, who died last month. Leah Williamson, Jill Scott, and Ellen White, all members of England's Euro 2022 winning team, are among the official race starters following the tribute. Stephen Mangan (inset) ran for Marie Curie United Kingdom, whilst McFly drummer Harry Judd (top, centre left) ran for the Children's Trust. Stephen Warnock, a former Premier League footballer, received a double thumbs up after finishing the campaign, which was also won by reality TV star-turned-presenter Mark Wright (top left), journalist Sophie Raworth (top right), and Paralympian Richard Whitehead (left) and former Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron (top, centre right), both finished with prosthetic legs.
