A roofer who threatened to'murder' a neighbor was spared prison time after his counsel argued that his Irish roots did not mean he did not mean it literally. Stephen Hunter, 46, became involved in a tense confrontation after his neighbor, an off-duty police officer, told him not to turn down the volume of loud music he was hearing at his home in Fishers Close, Norfolk, Norfolk. Magistrates in Norwich heard how he threatened to stab the cop who assaulted him, saying his children couldn't sleep because of the noise. Hunters were said to have yelled out of his window: 'They'll be a murder if I descend down there.' However, his counsel Lisa Robinson told the court: He is an Irish man, and they do not use the word murder in the sense that it is always taken.'
