Masturbating might slash risk of prostate cancer, claims expert (and more is better!)

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 24, 2024
Sheffield Hallam University's Dr Daniel Kelly, who has carried out numerous studies on prostates, said there is 'evidence' to support the theory. One Harvard University study found men who ejaculated 21 times a month were up to a third less likely to be struck down with the disease, compared to men who only did so between four and seven times monthly. The findings, from 2016, held true regardless of whether a man achieved an orgasm through masturbation or sex. Frequent ejaculation, Dr Kelly wrote in an article for The Conversation , 'will do no harm' and 'should therefore form part of a man's healthy lifestyle'.

EMILY PRESCOTT: As the fight for women has grown, the Mayfair club boss resigns as the tide for women has risen

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 6, 2024
EMILY PRINCIOTT: The chairman of a leading exclusive London gentlemen's club has resigned ahead of a potential change in policy that might result in women being able to participate. Gareth Neame, the founder of Mayfair's 156-year-old Savile Club, resigned on Friday and renounced his memberships at the Beefsteak Club and the Garrick Club simultaneously. Two sources close to Savile blamed his decision to leave on a variety of clubs' discussions over whether women are eligible to join. According to one of the accounts, Mr Neame simply could not cope with the tests and media involved. Mr Neame denied that the reason for his departure from the clubs was due to the issue of women members.

Thousands protest the 'ugly' £1.5 billion Liverpool Street Station renovation, which includes the addition of a 20-story tower and rooftop pool to the Grade II-listed building

The massive redevelopment was met with 2,160 protests, with just 29 in favor of the planning request made by Sellar, the developer behind The Shard's. The initiative calls for partial demolition of the Victorian-era train station and the construction of a 20-story building above the historic train station and the neighboring grade II listed Andaz hotel, formerly the Grand Eastern Hotel. Herzog and de Meuron, the Swiss architects who created Tate Modern, have designed a roof terrace with a wildflower meadow and a swimming pool. In the meantime, inside the tower would be a mash-up of hotel rooms and offices. Members of the public sluggishly criticized the proposals, and some even said that they would'destroy the entire character of Liverpool Street Station.'

Battle for the soul of Burnham Market? After wealthy second-home owners raised prices, locals in the Norfolk village known as 'Chelsea' say they can't afford to buy a house. However, employers continue to be dependent on the incomers

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 11, 2024
The pharmacy on Market Place in Burnham Market had been part of the local community for almost 200 years, and was gaining notoriety for selling arsenic to murderesses Frances Billing and Catherine Frary, who murdered three people and were hanged at Norwich Castle in 1835. When Sue and Brian Symonds, the pharmacy's previous owners, died in December 2018, their children tried to sell the store in vain, with locals hoping that another pharmacist would step in. However, house prices in the tiny village, which has only 724 people, have risen, spiraling by 23% in two decades, so no one was found, which was surprising. Locals who have been enraged by the influx of wealthy second-home owners, who have dubbed their village 'Chelsea-on-Sea,' have decided to make their opinions known by erecting a fake English Heritage blue plaque on the former pharmacy's brick façade.

Instead, they keep falling back on the classics, remaking favourite shows in the hopes that lightning will strike twice. Here we examine eight classics and compare them to their remakes - some are better than the original, some are more popular but equally good, and at least one of them is a horrible clunker.

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 12, 2024
As the cat character's 50th anniversary approaches, the family of the creators of the popular children's show Bagpuss (left) has told the BBC that they'were mistaken' about the show's enduring success. On the BBC, artist and puppeteer Peter Firmin and animator Oliver Postgate, who also produced Clangers from their Kent-based production company Smallfilms, only sent out 13 episodes of the'saggy old cloth cat', which began on February 12, 1974. However, the exhibit, which is located in a store that does not sell anything and features the characters Professor Yaffle the woodpecker; Gabriel the toad; rag doll Madeleine and various mice, has continued to be extremely popular. It has been re-broadcast multiple times, and a BBC poll in 1999 rated it as the all-time favorite children's program. The show's animator, Daniel Postgate (right) said that the tale of 'the massive, cuddly cat' meant 'packing a lot into one episode.'
