Career
Coletti, a born in La Colle, Monaco, enjoyed a fruitful karting career before deciding on single-seater racing. He finished as runner-up in the Italian Open Masters ICA-Junior category in 2003 before winning the Andrea Margutti Trophy and European Championship ICA–Junior titles in 2004.
Coletti began racing in 2005, joining Eifelland Racing to compete in Formula BMW ADAC championship, where he finished eighth in the standings. He also competed in the Formula BMW World Final in Bahrain for ASL Team Mücke Motorsport, finishing in 20th place.
He continued in the championship in 2006, winning four podium positions, including a single victory, to finish seventh in the standings. Despite missing a substantial portion of the championship, he participated in four Formula BMW USA races, winning three of them to finish fifth place for the season. Coletti had a second shot in the Formula BMW World Final, which took place in Tormo, Italy, where he came in third place, behind Mika Mäki and race champion Christian Vietoris.
Coletti made his debut in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series in August 2006, racing for the Cram Competition and Motopark Academy teams, but he failed to win a single point in any of the six races he entered.
He was a member of the Spanish Epsilon Euskadi team in 2007 to compete in both the Eurocup and Italian Formula Renault 2.0 championships. He came in fourth place in the Eurocup standings after winning at the Hungarian and two other podium positions, although in the Italian series he took two victories, both at Misano, placing him in fourth place.
Coletti made the move to the Formula 3 Euro Series for the 2008 season by joining the French Signature-Plus team. After being dropped from the Red Bull Driver Development program, however, he left the team after the first four races. Coletti missed the first round of the tournament at Pau before joining Prema Powerteam, which he stayed with for the remainder of the season. He had his best race result of fourth in eighth place last year, placing him in fifth place. He competed in the Masters of Formula 3 and Macau Grand Prix non-championship events, but he has retired from both championships.
Coletti will remain with the team through the 2009 season, according to Prema in January 2009. Coletti qualified in the first round of the year in Hockenheim before going on to win the season's first round of the year. Coletti competed in the Masters of Formula 3 event held in Zandvoort for the fourth time in the series, behind Finns Mika Mäki and race champion Valtteri Bottas.
Coletti was involved in a turbulent run after the Norisring's first race. Coletti, who came third in third place in the championship, had an altercation with race winner Jules Bianchi. Coletti said that Bianchi had said "poor words" to him and collided with the ART Grand Prix driver and championship champion. Coletti was then stripped of his third position and barred from the remainder of the meeting. Coletti failed to score points in the Oschersleben rounds and finished tenth in the championship.
Coletti tried Formula Renault 3.5 Series machines at Valencia for the first time in November 2008, partnering former GP2 Series driver Andy Soucek to try RC Motorsport. Coletti would compete in the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series in Monaco, replacing Frankie Provenzano. Coletti came in 11th place after Marco Barba scored a 25-second penalty, but Coletti was promoted to the final points paying position in tenth.
In 2010, Coletti returned to the series for a full season, teaming Greg Mansell at Comtec Racing. On his way to sixth place in the championship, he earned five podium finishes.
Coletti also participated in fourteen races of the inaugural GP3 Series season, winning Daniel Juncadella in the first round of the championship. Doru Sechelariuu, Jean-Éric Vergne, Jim Pla, and the returning Juncadella were among his colleagues. Coletti finished ninth in the championship, ranked ninth in the world's highest-placed Tech 1 drivers.
Coletti made his GP2 debut at Valencia in 2009 when he swapped Davide Valsecchi for Durango. He had a tumultuous first meeting in the series, receiving three drive-through penalties. He received one for jumping the start and one for crossing the white line at the pit lane exit before retiring from the sport. He stalled on the grid and was punished for starting from the grid rather than the pitlane in race two; he collided with Dani Clos before taking this penalty. Coletti crashed in his third GP2 race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, causing the race to finish under safe car conditions. He escaped with compressed vertebrae and minor bruising, missing the following day's sprint race because his car's monocoque was written off by the accident. Due to his injury, he also missed the Brands Hatch rounds of the F3 Euroseries. He was supposed to return to GP2 at Monza after being fully recovered, but he had to cancel due to recurring pain during Thursday scrutineering.
In 2011, Coletti returned to GP2 with Trident Racing alongside Rodolfo González. In the Asia series, he won the sprint race at Yas Marina, securing his fourth position in the drivers' standings. He started the main series well by winning the sprint portion of the championship's first round, which took place at Istanbul Park. He crashed intensely during the feature race at Spa-Francorchamps, suffering two vertebral compression fractures, two years after suffering a similar but less serious injury. As a result, he missed the remainder of the season. Compatriot Stéphane Richelmi took his seat.
Coletti and Fabio Onidi returned to GP2 for the 2012 season, but after ten rounds of the championship, finishing 14th in the championship with just one podium finish, he left the team by mutual consent. He quickly joined the Rapax team for the final rounds of the championship, replacing Danil de Jong. In three of the remaining four races, he finished in the points, lifting him above Rio Haryanto to a final championship position of 13th.
