In 1994, an American photojournalist and photographer who is known for his coverage of the Chechnya civil war in 1994 that was compiled into the book Open Wound. He is also known for co-founding the NOOR Agency in 2007, which helped start the careers of many other well-known photographers and photo journalists.

Before Fame

When he was 11 years old, he received his first camera from his parents. He started his career as a painter but later attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied as a photographer. After taking an iconic photograph of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he began his work as a photojournalist.

Trivia

He has taken photographs of many international events, including the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrine and the Gulf Coast in 2005.

Family Life

He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, with two parents who were actors. His father belonged to the Harlem Renaissance movement.
