Sonny Shroyer Life

Otis Burt "Sonny" Shroyer, Jr. (born August 28, 1935) is an American actor who has appeared in a number of television and film roles. He is best known for his role as Deputy Sheriff Enos Strate in the television series The Dukes of Hazzard. * He also appeared in Enos, a short-lived spin-off based on his Dukes of Hazzard appearance. Chris and Mark, Shroyer's husband, are married and have two sons. Shroyer was born in Valdosta, Georgia. He attended Florida State University on a football scholarship, but his time was cut short due to a injury. He earned his degree at the University of Georgia. In 1961, he began to work as a professional model. * His first screen role appeared in the 1972 film Payday. * Shroyer almost became stereotyped as a bad guy before being cast as the naive Deputy Enos Strate in the hit pop culture series The Dukes of Hazzard in 1978 (first broadcast early 1979). The Dukes of Hazzard was the most prominent of Shroyer's career. * His character was written out at the start of the third season in order to be given a spinoff series named Enos in 1980. After eighteen episodes, the new show was not a success, and it was cancelled. Shroyer returned to The Dukes of Hazzard at the start of the fifth season in 1982 and stayed with the series until 1985. * In 1982, Shroyer first released a children's album. * The album was titled Back in Hazzard, and it featured Roger Miller's "You Can't Rollerskate In a Buffalo Herd" on the front page. * For Franks' 2001 album God's Children, he recorded a song titled "Children in Need" with fellow actor Randall Franks. * He and Franks have appeared together in public. Shroyer is still active as a character actor. In Forrest Gump, Delbert Birdsong, and Governor Jimmie Davis in Ray, he portrayed University of Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. * He is also a country and gospel singer.
