Son Yeon-jae KTM (born 28 May 1994) is a South Korean retired individual rhythmic gymnast.
She is a former member of the South Korean national gymnastics team, based in Taereung, Seoul.
She is the 2014 Asian Games All-around Champion, the 2010 Asian Games all-around bronze medalist, three-time (2016, 2015, 2013) Asian Championships All-around Champion.

Personal life
Son is an only child. She is also the second cousin of Korean figure skater Yun Yea-ji.
As of 14 June 2017, Son was revealed to be in a relationship with the leader and lead guitarist of rock band F.T. Island's Choi Jong-hoon. At a fan meeting in Japan on 1 August 2017, Choi revealed that they have broken up and his agency, FNC Entertainment, later confirmed this information.
On April 7, 2022, it was confirmed that Son was in a relationship with a businessman, who is 9 years older than her. Later in May 2022, Son announced that she would marry in August 2022. Their private wedding ceremony was held on August 21, 2022 at Hotel Shilla in Seoul. Son donates 50 million won for her wedding gift to Severance Children's Hospital.
Athletic career
Son was born in Seoul and began gymnastics at an early age to help her shed weight. She was crowned all-around gold medal at the Angel Cup in Malaysia in 2008. Kim Yuna's Festa on Ice, an Olympic and World champion figure skater, appeared in 2009 for the first ceremony of Olympic and World champion figure skater Kim Yuna's Festa on Ice. She won the Slovenian Challenge Tournament junior all-around champion for the first time. After winning a gold medal in individual all-around at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, becoming the first South Korean rhythmic gymnast to do so. She moved to Russia for long-term training shortly after.
Son Yeon-jae made her international debut at the 2010 Kalamata World Cup, finishing 12th in all-around. In May 2010, then competed at the Corbeil-Essonnes International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament, placing 11th in all-around. She placed 32nd in the individual all-around category at the 2010 World Championships, but not advanced to the finals. With a total score of 100.700 points, she ranked 19th in the individual overall at the 2011 Grand Prix.
She finished in second place with Wong Poh San in the individual overall and third in the Hoop final in February 2012. Son became the first Korean rhythmic gymnast to compete at the World Cup Series, Category B, in Penza, Russia, winning a bronze medal and finishing fourth in the individual category in the individual category. In May 2012, she came in last place in the World Cup Series, Category B in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where she came fifth overall. In the Individual all-around class at the World Cup Series, Bulgaria, son came in second place.
At the Qualifications, Son finished 6th. She was ranked 3rd in the rankings up to the 2nd rotation in the All-around finals before a drop from her Clubs earned her 26.750 points. Son finished fifth in the Finals overall with a score of 111.475 points. Son was the first Korean rhythmic gymnast to qualify and qualify in the All-around Finals at the Olympics.
Son began competing in the 2013 Moscow Grand Prix, winning bronze in clubs and placing bronze in ribbon. Son earned a silver medal in the 2013 Pesaro World Cup's ribbon finals on April 30, 2013, marking the first time a Korean athlete has been awarded a silver medal in any discipline of a rhythmic gymnastics World Cup. Son earned bronze medal in hoop at the 2013 Sofia World Cup, where Ukrainian Ganna Rizatdinova competed for 4th in all-around. Son then competed in the 2013 Minsk World Cup, finishing fourth in all-around, with Alex Kudryavtseva of Russia as the top medalist and 7th in ball. Son competed at the 2013 Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where she became the first Korean rhythmic gymnast to win gold in the all-around event, as well as Team Korea's winning the silver medal. Son achieved gold in hoop and clubs, gold in ribbon behind China's Deng Senyue, and finished fourth in ball. She placed 6th in all-around, qualified to 3 event finals, placed 5th in clubs, and 7th in ribbon at the 2013 Summer Universiade where she placed 6th in all-around. Son began her career in 2014 by placing 6th in the all-around rankings, and in the event finals, she received bronze medals in ribbon, clubs, and hoop. Son then placed seventh in All-around, qualifying for three event finals, finishing 8th in ribbon, and 5th in hoop. Son captured her first gold medal in the World Cup in 2014, becoming the first Asian and Korean rhythmic gymnasts to win and medal in the All-around. Melitina Staniouta (silver) and World Cup debutante Dina Averina (bronze) all scored 71.200 points ahead of her. Son became the first Asian and Korean rhythmic gymnast to win three gold medals (in ball, clubs, ribbon) and took bronze in hoop, behind Staniouta and Maria Titova in the event finals. She continued with her fourth appearance at the Pesaro World Cup in 2014, where Son finished 5th in all-around and earned bronze in clubs and bronze in the bronze medal. Son received the MBN Women Sports Award 2014 in Seoul, with 42 percent of the votes ahead of Kim Yuna with 33.3 percent votes.
Son canceled from her first scheduled event in 2015 due to sickness. Son returned to action in the 2015 Lisboa World Cup, placing 4th in all-around, placing 5th (clubs, ball) and 6th (ribbon). She then qualified for the 2015 Bucharest World Cup, finishing 4th in all-around, but she was disqualified from the apparatus finals after suffering an ankle injury. Son won the all-around bronze alongside Russian Margarita Mamun (gold) and Aleksandra Soldatova (silver) in May 22-23. She qualified to all four apparatus finals, winning bronze in hoop, placed 7th in basketball, 8th in clubs, and 6th in ribbon. Son began competing in the 2016 Moscow Grand Prix, finishing second in the all-around class behind Aleksandra Soldatova. She earned silver in hoop, bronze with ball, and ribbon, and she finished fourth with clubs in the event finals. Son competed in the 2016 Espoo World Cup and took the all-around silver ahead of Ganna Rizatdinova's appearance in the apparatus finals, earning gold in ball, silver in ribbon, bronze in hoop, and 7th in clubs. Son also competed at the 2016 Lisboa World Cup, placing fourth in hoop, ball, and seventh in ribbon, on 17-19 March. Son finished fourth in the all-around at the Pesaro World Cup on April 1 to 3,900 points behind Ukrainian Ganna Rizatdinova. In the event finals, she earned silver in clubs, bronze in ribbon, finished 4th in ball, and 6th in hoop. Son captured the all-around gold at the 2016 Asian Championships on May 8-10, 2015 (hoop, ball, ribbon), becoming only the second Asian rhythmic gymnast to win all the gold since Aliya Yussupova captured all the gold at the Asian Championships. Son achieved bronze in the all-around at the 2016 Sofia World Cup, earning gold in clubs, silver in hoop, ribbon, and bronze in basketball on May 27-29. Son then placed fourth in the all-around at the 2016 Guadalajara World Cup on 3–5 June, finishing 4th in (hoop, ribbon, clubs) and winning bronze in the ball finals. Son then finished fourth in the all-around at the 2016 Kazan World Cup with a total of 74.900 points, setting new Personal Best, qualifying her for all apparatus finals, including gold in hoop, bronze in ribbon, 4th in ball and clubs, and fourth overall.
Son debuted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 19 to 20 August. She qualified for the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around final, placing fourth overall with a score of 72.898 points.
Son has dropped out of college after the 2016 Summer Olympics; she is now enrolled at the Yonsei University. Nevertheless, Son was named as the top South Korean celebrity of 2016, a national poll conducted by Gallup Korea; Son received 29.8 percent of the votes before the year's end. Son Yeon-jae announced her retirement on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at the age of 22.
