Alexa Citlali Moreno Medina (born 8 August 1994) is a Mexican artistic gymnast.

She is the first female gymnast to compete at a world championships, and she is the 2018 world bronze medalist on vault.

She appeared at the 2011 World Championships.

At these championships, she qualified to the vault final.

In the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, she came third in the vault final and earned a personal qualification slot for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Moreno received the Premio Nacional de Deportes 2019 (National Sports Prize 2019) in the "non-professional" category for her accomplishments in November.

Personal life

Moreno was bullied and fat-shamed on social media during the 2016 Olympics. At the University of the Valley of Mexico, she studies architecture. Mara Espinoza, a Mexican Taekwondo, is admired by the singer.

Career

Moreno began gymnastics when she was three years old.

Dominique Pegg and Emily Little won the bronze medal on the vault at the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships. She earned the team gold medal and also won the vault silver medal alongside teammate Elsa Garca at the Central American and Caribbean Games. During the qualification round of the 2010 World Championships, the Mexican team came in ranked twenty-first.

Moreno did not participate in the 2011 Pan American Games due to a meniscus injury the day before the games were announced, but the Mexican team won the bronze medal. In the qualification round, the Mexican team came in seventeenth, and Moreno qualified for the vault final, where she finished seventh.

Moreno claimed the silver medal on the vault at the 2012 Zibo World Challenge Cup, behind Cheng Fei. She earned her first FIG World Cup gold medal on the vault at the Ghent World Challenge Cup.

Moreno was fourth in the 2013 Mexican team, and she placed fifth in the vault final.

At the 2014 Pan American Championships, Moreno earned a bronze medal for his Mexican team. She also finished sixth in the all-around, seventh in the vault, and fifth in the uneven bars. She competed for the 2015 World Championships in Nanning, China, helping the Mexican team finish fourteenth after qualifying the team for the 2015 World Championships. She qualified for the vault final and placed seventh in the world's highest ranking. She won the gold medal with the Mexican team and also placed ninth in the all-around and eighth in the uneven bars at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

In the all-around at the 2015 Mexican Championships, Moreno received bronze medals. At the Olimpiada Nacional, she also earned the all-around bronze medal. She captured the silver medal on the vault, behind Marcia Videaux at the Anadia World Challenge Cup. Due to a broken cheekbone, she was unable to participate in the 2015 Pan American Games. She returned to action at the World Championships and finished seventh in the vault final. She came in seventh in the Arthur Gander Memorial All-around at the World Championships. She starred on a mixed-team with Daniel Corral at the Swiss Cup, finishing eighth overall, and eighth in the team.

Moreno qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Test Event, finishing 20th in the all-around. At the Anadia World Challenge Cup in 2010, she then captured the silver medal on the vault behind Marcia Videaux. She represented Mexico at the 2016 Summer Olympics and finished third in the all-around round, making her the second reserve for the all-around final.

Moreno did not compete in 2017 because her studies took precedence.

Moreno took the all-around bronze medal at the 2018 Mexican Championships as well as the vault title. In the all-around competition behind Frida Esparza, she earned the silver medal at the Mexican Trial Meet. She earned the Pan American Championships team bronze medal and finished fourth in the all-around competition, as well as placing fourth in the all-around. She captured the vault bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships in Doha alongside Simone Biles and Shallon Olsen, becoming the first Mexican female gymnast to win a medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Since Daniel Corral, the second Mexican gymnast to win a World medal, she was the second Mexican gymnast to win a medal on the pommel horse. She appeared at the Cottbus World Cup and finished fourth on the vault after the World Championships. In addition, the Mexican team came in ninth in the qualification round. She then competed at the Toyota International and earned the gold medal on the vault and placed eighth on the floor exercise, finishing eighth.

At the 2019 Melbourne World Cup, Moreno came in fourth place on the vault. She then received the bronze medal on the vault at the Baku World Cup, alongside Jade Carey and Oksana Chusovitina. At the Doha World Cup, she finished fourth on the vault once more. She captured the vault title and finished seventh in the all-around at the Mexican Championships. She captured the bronze medal on the vault alongside Yeo Seo-jeong and Oksana Chusovitina at the Korea Cup. She placed sixth in the vault final and qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Stuttgart, earning her a coveted all-around finish in the qualifying round.

Moreno competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Mexico, becoming the second Mexican female gymnast to qualify for a final after Denisse López qualified for the vault final at the 2000 Olympic Games. She came in fourth in the vault final, less than a tenth behind bronze medalist Yeo Seo-jeong. After the Olympics, she announced her retirement.
