Sohail Sen (born 24 June 1984) is an Indian film composer, musician and singer who works in Bollywood.

He is also known for composing the popular soundtracks of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Ek Tha Tiger, and Gunday.

Early life

Sen comes from a family of musicians who have worked in the film industry and his entry into the film composing world marked the fourth generation of his family to do so. His father, Sameer Sen (of the music director duo Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen) has always been a strong influence in his life, as was his paternal grandfather Shri Shambhu Sen's singing.

Sen started learning music at the age of six. He learnt to play the tabla as a child, and then went on to learn various musical instruments including the piano and percussion and rhythm instruments. He learnt classical music from his grandfather Shri Shambhu Sen. He began his career as a music director at the young age of thirteen when he composed the music for a telefilm titled Roshni and for which renowned singer Kavita Krishnamurthy provided playback. He then decided to assist his father for nine years to fine-tune his skills as a film composer.

Sohail Sen Career

Career

Sen began his career as a film composer with the Hindi film Sirf in 2008, but the film was supposed to be published in 2006, but it was delayed indefinitely and eventually disappeared unnoticed, and eventually the music went unnoticed. He also composed the music for The Murderer (2009), which was then postponed, but the performance went unnoticed.

As director Ashutosh Gowariker approached him in 2009 for his film What's Your Raashee?, he reached a turning point in his career as a film composer. Rahman wanted to write for the film but Rahman couldn't do it because he wanted to compose for Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire. So, he began looking for someone who is able and willing to contribute fully to his film alone. Sen. Ashutosh Gowariker was always keen to work with him, and, curiously enough, Sen. Sameer Sen knew him from the start and learned that Gowariker was looking for someone to compose for his film, Sen. Sen. Sen. Paula requested a meeting with him. Gowariker's first meeting with him was a casual one at his office, where he told him that he would like to force him to read some of his books. Gowariker immediately agreed to visit his studio the next morning. When he went to Sen's studio and heard some of his songs, he loved what he heard, and a few weeks later, Gowariker called up Sen. "You are on for this project." Sen. It was a dream come true for him. Sen was excited to hear the invite, but when he was told that there will be 13 songs in the movie, one song for each of the 12 zodiac signs, and then one song in which the lead protagonist makes the final pick, he was taken aback, but then again, it was the most difficult challenge, but he took it up as a challenge and started constructing 13 songs, each for a particular zodiac sign and then incorporating the character of all these 12 songs into

Despite the film's box office success, the soundtrack was released in August 2009 and has received mainly critical feedback. The album was described as "interestingly done" and "an event not to be missed" by Bollywood Hungama. Sen's work was praised by BBC Music, who said, "Sen shows he can compete with the best in Bollywood." Sen also performed the majority of the songs in the film, as well as composing the soundtrack and film score.

In 2010, director Ashutosh Gowariker brought him back for his period piece film Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, which was based on 1930's Chittagong Uprisings. The soundtrack of which received overwhelmingly critical feedback.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, a top banner film, has had a big success in 2011, and both critics and audiences alike applauded his music. "Dhunki," "Isq Risk," and title track were chartbusters. Since Pritam had date issues with both Yash Raj projects Ek Tha Tiger and Dhoom 3, he replaced Pritam as the music director for Salman Khan's upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger in 2012. The soundtrack received unanimously favorable feedback. Sen. Dulhan will team up with Ali Abbas Zafar for Gunday, which stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Irrfan Khan, in 2014. Although Sen will be the music composer on Gunday's Hindi theatrical debut, Bappi Lahiri will write complete Bengali songs for the film, as it will also be available in Bengali. It's the first time Bappi Lahiri will work with Yash Raj Films.
